Job Description 1102147 Field Engineer II
Panasonic of North America (PNA) is seeking to hire a full time Field Engineer II for Panasonic Solutions Company (PSC). The successful candidate will provide end-to-end consulting, systems engineering, troubleshooting and project management services to support PSC sales efforts and customers. Additionally, this person will assist the sales teams in qualifying opportunities, designing and implementing solutions while working with carrier partners, headquarters and factory engineers to bring high quality solutions to market and resolve any issues related to networking technologies and PSC products. Performance of functions and services are executed independently and/or in coordination with third party partners and Panasonic Internal Teams.
* Will report directly to a Wireless/Networking Team Supervisor
* Typically engaged in multiple projects simultaneously (varying scale, scope, revenue potential)
* Works independently or as part of a project team involving internal PSC, PNA resources, systems integrator(s) and 3rd party solutions providers, to design, implement, deliver, and support fully integrated customer business solutions on-time, on-budget, and in full compliance of defined requirements, specifications, and performance parameters
* Will be the main technical point of contact to provide technical wireless support for the Latin American Region PSC Team
* Project driven travel requirements of up to 80%
Accountabilities:
Engineering Functions (80% of FE Time):
Customer Support
* Analyzes, test, and provide solutions for customer applications and issues related to networking hardware and software used with Panasonic Solutions Company products and services
* Analyzes customer requirements to recommend most appropriate Panasonic solutions
* Serves as escalation point for service and hotline in resolving customer problems when escalated to ensure timely resolution
* Assists in pre and post sales situations with on-site (potentially 80% travel within region) technical assistance as required
Technical Support
* Provides training on new products to Sales, Service, and end-users as required
* Provides technical assistance to support end-users, Hotline, HQ Engineering, and 3rd parties as needed
* Tests 3rd party hardware and software for compatibility as required
* Collaborates closely with Sales team on leads, pre-installs, site surveys, and emergency support issues
* Assists sales teams by providing support on specification, configuration, compatibility and functionality matters related to the PSC product line
* Understands and can troubleshoot network related issues pertaining to routers and switches which may impact the functionality associated with PSC company products
* Has knowledge of wireless technologies such as: HSPA, EVDO, WLAN, LTE
* Possesses solid understanding of common computer operating systems (i.e. Windows, Linux, Android, etc), and has ability to troubleshoot accordingly
Product Management
* Constructs project charters, scope statements, etc., in accordance with accepted project management standards
* Effectively closes out the various phases of customer based projects: planning, implementation, close out
* Maintains records of all open issues
* Ensures satisfactory closure of quality issues are reached in an expeditious manner to protect the Panasonic brand image, minimizing the impact to the customer, and excessive service costs
* Manages escalated problems to ensure timely resolution
* Prepares reports, as requested by supervisor, on issues such as product performance, job site visits, site surveys, and project implementation status
Professional Development and Reporting Functions (20% of FE Time):
Product and Solutions Knowledge Base
* Continue to maintain technical capabilities in the relevant technical areas including, projection technologies, IT networks and systems, control systems and technologies that support these technically diverse systems areas.
* Clearly communicates the PSC Solutions capabilities and value proposition Why Panasonic through engaging presentations and conversational meetings
* Maintains and stays up to date with detailed knowledge of PSC products and solution set.
* Continues to stay current on market competitive information and can effectively leverage this information to generate sales opportunities and/or improved market position for PSC solution offerings.
* Support Product Development activities: by recommending new Product features and/or Solution ideas based on product expertise, customer experience, channel feedback, and Sales Team input. Work with Product Management and solution development team on key product improvements to address market needs.
Cost and Expense Management, Business Ethics and Professionalism
* Consistently adheres to defined T&E company policy during planning and actual travel.
* Team player, and consistently works with others in mind and respects responsibilities of peers, headquarters, and all PSC and PNA team members
* Is timely and accurate with all administrative duties (weekly reports, specific reports)
* Responds to voice-mail, email, and information requests within eight hours
* Continually conducts oneself in a highly ethical, moral, and professional fashion
* Is consistently on time for internal and external meetings, conference calls and other time sensitive events
* Has a high degree of loyalty to Panasonic
Qualifications
Competencies:
* Strong knowledge of networking technologies with the capabilities to understand, develop, and design optimized solutions involving technically challenging engineering and systems integration requirements of varying scale, scope, and complexity
* Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to think on feet. Ability to quickly diagnose and correct technical issues related to networking technologies
* Excellent project management and process improvement acumen with effective people skills and managing by influence
* Proactive and effective problem solving capabilities to handle potentially complex project and engineering problems with minimal assistance
* Strong communication, persuasion, and platform skills to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel from line, tactical, and up to executive level both internally and within the customer organization
Education and Experience:
* BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required. Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or related field is a plus
* At least three years experience supporting and troubleshooting network technologies
* Direct systems integration experience desired, with strong and demonstrated competency in engineering design, proposal development, and effective project management
* Familiar with network diagnostic tools: Qualcomm QXDM, Wireshark, etc
* Significant experience working with carrier partners
* Experience with programming platforms: Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual C# preferred
* Network qualification such as Cisco CCNA, WCCNA, or CCNP required
* Microsoft MCP of similar certification is required
* PMP or similar project management certification preferred
* High level of competency working with productivity utilities such as MS Word, Excel, Visio, etc required
