Job Summary

This position is 100% travel away from home, often times in excess of 300 miles.  You will work as a member of a team away from home all week either four days on/three days off or eight days on/six days off to perform all aspects of Positive Train Control (PTC) installation work generally considered within the scope(s) of the respective schedule agreement(s).

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

* Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
* Install signal components throughout the CSX rail network
* Perform heavy outdoor work
* Perform all aspects of Positive Train Control (PTC) signal installation work
* Work with and under the direction of a Signalman or higher rated position
* Perform other duties as assigned

Pay Rate

$17.50/hour plus travel and per diem of up to USD251.38/week (based on a 4 day work week)

Promotional/Advancement Opportunities

After a maximum of 6 months service, you will be eligible for advancement or promotion to other positions within the Signal Department, if qualified.

Training

You will attend one week of paid training at the Tony L. Ingram Railroad Education & Development Institute (REDI) in Atlanta, GA.  CSX will pay for travel, lodging and meals as required by collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* High School diploma/GED
* 21 years of age or older
* Valid Driver''s License
* Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with Airbrake Endorsement

Preferred Qualifications

* Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with Airbrake Endorsement
* Experience using Volt / Ohm meters and other electrical and electronic testing equipment
* Experience interpreting electric and electronic circuit schematics
* Electronic or electrical training or previous experience
* Outside work experience (e.g. construction, heavy equipment operation, farming, landscaping)

Basic Competencies

* Verbal comprehension (understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
* Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
* Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
* Basic Math

Physical Requirements

*

Heavy Work, lifting up to 60 pounds occasionally

* Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
* Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
* Climb ladders and install, maintain and climb poles up to at least 40 feet in height
* Walking over uneven terrain and getting on and off vehicles and equipment
* Equipment restrictions mandate that an incumbent must not exceed the 300 lb equipment capacity limits (including 15 lbs of required tools) to safely perform the job duties.
* Must meet color vision requirements as described in the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Regulations

Employment Conditions

* Must be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with Airbrake Endorsement within 60 days of hire
* Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
* Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, hard hats or safety glasses
* Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
* Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination
* Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
* Must pass all required assessments

Must pass a background screening

* This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required
* Up to 100% regional travel is required
*

Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test that entails a 1.5 hour strength and cardiovascular fitness test. You will be required to travel up to 4 hours to testing center at your expense

Work outside in all weather conditions, in confined spaces and/or at elevated heights.
