Description
This position will perform functions related to complex drafting assignments including providing direction to other engineering technicians and/or less complex design assignments. At this level, some individuals may perform both functions while others may begin to focus on either CAD or other electronic tools or design work. Those engaged in CAD or other electronic tool activity may provide guidance to others including the delegation of work assignments and the review of work for completeness and accuracy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Develop less complex design concepts and create project design deliverables from sketches, written and/or verbal instructions. Applies judgment and makes decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation. Perform more advanced computations such as development of detailed material quantities and estimates.
Assist in coordinating deliverables with other groups involved on the same project to minimize interference or errors. Depending on department criteria, the professional is expected to learn new programs and processes required for assignments. Continuously evaluates the methods used to accomplish the CAD or other electronic tools and/or design activities they have been assigned. If this evaluation indicates that a process can be simplified without sacrificing the integrity of the outcome, it should be discussed with the supervisor for possible implementation. Ensures that the design concept and deliverables are complete and meet Black & Veatch QA requirements, applicable codes, and standards. Design concepts and deliverables shall comply with recommended practices, sketches, notes, and the applicable design manuals. Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements.
Minimum Qualifications 3 years previous engineering work experience.
Drafting Diploma or Certificate. Associate Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology (preferred).
Preferred Job Qualifications Experience in the use of electronic tools required for performing assignments. These would include but not be limited to CAD or other electronic tools, Word Processing, and Email Systems.
Displays leadership and confidence to provide guidance and mentor others with less experience in the areas of basic CAD or other electronic tools and/or design practices and principles.
