Were looking for a talented Principal Engineer to lead a team in designing and developing cutting edge technologies in the exciting mobile space. We are focused on building world-class retail and developer experiences. This leader will own the architecture of the overall product and work with senior engineers to solve difficult technical problems. We are looking for a passionate, talented, and innovative Principal Engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems and delivering high-performance, highly-available, and extremely scalable systems.
Principal Engineers provide technical leadership and inspiration. They help establish technical standards and drive overall technical architecture, engineer practices, and engineering methodologies. They work on our hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. They think globally when building systems, ensuring a2z Research and Development builds high performing, scalable systems that fit well together. Principal Engineers are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Their expertise is deep and broad. They are hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.

The person must also be a strong leader who can drive consensus across cross-functional business and software development teams and be an excellent communicator who can articulate technical design trade offs with senior technical leaders.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Provide architectural leadership for software development efforts by integrating various technologies such as web applications, relational databases, information security, servers, networking, etc.
* Review and analyze current systems and processes to determine requirements by developing detailed systems documentation including functional specifications, design requirements, templates, layout, navigation, diagrams, maps, etc.
* Provide high-level analysis and design reviews to solve conceptual problems and avoid duplication of efforts within different applications.
* Evaluate new technologies and recommend extension, expansion, and update of technology standards, practices, and methodologies.
* Ensure design, structure, and content meet performance guidelines; may assist with test planning and testing.
* Perform development work at OS core level.
* Oversee the primary activities of individual contributors to ensure completion of tasks and attainment of departmental goals.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field.
* Extensive experience with full development life cycle for large-scale software products including extensive experience with service oriented architectures, design patterns, web services, and web applications/services development.
* 10+ years of experience in software development.
* 3+ years of Android Development / Architecture experience
* 5+ years of experience as a software development lead including optimizing short term execution while planning for long term technical capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
* Masters/PhD in Computer Science or related field
* Deep understanding of system performance tradeoffs, load balancing, and engineering for high availability.
* Large scalable systems released and owned by individual
* Strong understanding of Android platform (Linux Kernel to Application Level) including Memory Management, Dalvik VM, Android support for multi-core HW, SMP
* Has experience launching large Android projects for multi-device support
* Has experience launching Android projects for multi-locale international markets
* Experience with developing in Java and Java 2 SDK v6, with a background in NetBeans
* Knowledge of Objective-C and with classic C++ in STL
* Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills
