Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile, portable, hand-held consumer electronics products, like the Kindle and the new Kindle Fire. The products we design and engineer are easy-to-use and offer users benefits that are only made possible through tightly integrated digital technologies and wireless connectivity.

As a Product Design Engineer you will be responsible for developing mechanical architecture initiatives, delivering custom component development and supporting product design integration. This team will contribute to product development through application of analysis and validation, component design and specification development. We are looking for an experienced engineer to come onboard and be part of a world-class organization.

The Role:

* Collaborate with enclosure Device Development teams to establish design architectures, materials requirements and validation criteria to meet new product design objectives.
* Own delivery of interconnect and key component development for new product designs.
* Drive analytical modeling and validation to stretch boundaries of new product design constraints, enhance new product development quality and speed device development.
* Support FA, and product returns analysis in collaboration with Product Engineering team.
* Collaborate with Operations SBM & factory teams to drive yield and UPH improvements.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
* 6+ years experience as a Mechanical Design, Product Design, Analysis, Interconnect or Component Engineer.
* Demonstrated application of design analysis and record of new product development.
* Experience developing experimental techniques to investigate and find solutions to unique and difficult problems.
* Working knowledge of geometric tolerances and statistical tolerance analysis techniques.
* Must have an understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal forming and die-casting, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
* Knowledge and experience using Pro/ENGINEER solid modeling, sheet metal design, assembly creation and drafting techniques.
* Proficiency using FEA tools such as ANSYS, Nastran or Abaqus.
* Experience applying linear, non-linear and dynamic structural analyses supporting development of new products.
* Experience in the assessment of failure mechanisms such as yield, fracture and fatigue is desired.
* Experience using statistical analysis to solve engineering and manufacturing issues.
* Time spent at manufacturing sites globally.
* Strong communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working on portable, battery powered, ideally wireless devices in the consumer electronics industry.
* Green or Black Belt certification.
* Experience in the development of handheld consumer & mobile electronics products.
* Experience with the design and analysis of interconnection systems and connectors.
* Masters or PhD preferred.
