Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: (Position Summary) Under minimal supervision, incumbent will independently provide assistance in the form of advice and counsel to staff and management regarding: interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies; compliance with applicable local, State and Federal law; provide information to management regarding employment practices, provide advice and counsel to managers on performance management, layoffs, grievance processing, and complaint resolution. Respond to information requests, assist in preparation and presentation of arbitration and other administrative hearings; conduct formal and informal management training.

Qualifications

* Bachelor''s degree or equivalent corresponding job-related experience required.
* Minimum 5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience highly desirable.
* Must have current knowledge of personnel and labor law, wage/hour law and employment law.
* General familiarity with compensation and benefit plan(s) administration.
* Must possess sensitivity and tact in dealing with numerous campus departments, employees and union representatives
* Must have proven ability in problem-solving, analysis and independent judgement
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work under minimal supervision, and function effectively in potentially adversarial and somewhat ambiguous situations.
* General familiarity with compensation programs and practices.
* Computer literacy and Microsoft Office software applications are necessary.
