PURPOSE
The Principal Engineer analyzes forecast models to adequately forecast scalability requirements to include network traffic and service solutions as well as tests and evaluates various network, system and service design, concepts, performance and features. This position is the key implementation leader in the hub consolidation project.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Accountable for all technical aspects of RF Network operations, integration, updates and maintenance.
*Indirectly accountable for reliability and proper operation and performance of network operations originating all necessary changes to TWCs plant operations including test and maintenance of new technologies/processes.
*Proactively defines plans and schedules in order to effectively augment the network switched platform to ensure effective operations.
*Develops and monitors both customer and network operations processes including establishment of 'best practice' processes.
*Develops and defines standard configurations and architectures are implemented and maintained.
*Must have significant experience working with contractors in order to accomplish engineering/operations goals.
*Assists with the coordination of Headend Proof of Performance tests and EAS tests to ensure compliance of all FCC and quality standards.
*Responsible for operating area metrics including outage performance, channel outage minutes, Critical infrastructure minutes and operating metrics such as Repeat Reports and Service Call Rates.
*Assists with understanding main customer call drivers and the connection between engineering activities and operations.
*Drive process improvements by defining key hub standards and planbook to meet the standards
*Responsible for project plan definition, design, training on design and implementation of video and HSD edge device deployment
*Reviews daily blocking reports to assess operational or true blocking. Defines plan to augment service groups where blocking occurs. Identifies future needs based on historical service group blocking data.
*Responsible for capacity planning and implementation for SDV and VOD service groups. Defines design, identifies hardware needs, prepares PA and POs in order to implement select service group augments as well as coordinates with Construction for node splits needed to augment service group size. Defines strategic direction of edge deployment.
*Assists with technology launches as well as the engineering plans and strategies outlining future technology matters in the operating area. Serve as primary contact to area engineers and operations personnel in the deployment of new technologies.
*Track and understand a common set of key metrics across the operating area to monitor the performance and health of all the major technical and operational parameters of new technology launches.
*Collaborate with engineering leadership and peers in other operating areas to evaluate best practices.
*Identify design needs and flaws in order to redesign or improve the original architecture from a customer service perspective
*Create engineering standards across the hub organization to ensure consistency across the Market.
*Create standard designs and ensure consistency with the design. Work with vendors to meet technical requirements and ensure architecture meets customers needs.
*Review various vendor technologies and architectures. Recommend standard for Market. Trial technology/architecture and define training/budget needs and implementation plans.
*Review various combining architectures in order to maximize performance across all platforms: SDV/VOD and HSD with the new, denser QAMs.
*Defines engineering implementation plans and processes across the hub organization to effectively troubleshoot issues across various platforms -- pre and post implementation.
*Interfaces with vendors and other TWC departments to assist with the support and troubleshooting of SDV/VOD and HSD.
*Review configuration sheets before launching new hardware or changes (i.e.: SDV QAM's).
*Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
*Making Decisions and Solving Problems - Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
*Analyzing Data or Information - Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
*Monitor Processes and reviewing information from events to detect or assess problems.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
*Ability to drive hard results with the appropriate technical foresight, business flexibility, and people sensitivity.
*An effective bridge-builder between Advanced Technology Group and the engineering and operations personnel.

*Strong background in Operations Processes and must be able to communicate to executive levels.
*Must have strong analytical skills with a focus on the overall operations environment accompanied by a willingness to dive into the daily details at a level to accomplish short term and long term results.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
*Bachelors Degree from a four year college or university in Engineering or a related field is preferred, equivalent job.
*11 15 years required in a cable or telecommunications company, preferably within the engineering environment.
*7 10 years leadership experience; must be known for technical expertise. Must be able to indirectly lead engineers across the Market
