Description:

This position will be within Southern California Edison’s
(SCE) Information Technology and Business Integration (ITBI)
Business Unit supporting electric power Energy Management Systems
(EMS). The successful candidate will support daily operations and
maintenance of the SCE EMS/SCADA systems in order to meet client
needs. This position will be responsible for building and
maintaining graphical displays depicting the Edison electrical
system as well as adding/modifying database content reflecting
field equipment changes.

 

Typical responsibilities will include:

•Responding to engineer requests for point additions using
spreadsheets, csv files and scripts to convert these files to input
application data information, including coordinating the
installation of this information according to client schedule and
needs.

•Identifying SCADA communication problems in support of field
equipment changes and coordinating fixes with Power System Controls
technicians.

•Monitoring the system performance and fielding client problem
requests as a client problem troubleshooting resource.

•Ensuring the client support capability is continuously
present, including answering trouble calls.

•Maintaining the continued reliability of the overall EMS
system by enforcing proper database and display install and testing
methods. 

•Supporting the EMS/SCADA Client operations by ensuring the
database and displays accurately models the SCE electrical
system.

•Some off-hours support is required to support a rotating
incident management program and client off-hours install
requests.

•Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following
Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.

•Performing other responsibilities and duties as
assigned.

 

Basic Qualification:

• Must have experience using Computer Aided Drawing and
Database Maintenance tools.


Job Requirements:

•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science,
Information Systems; or an equivalent combination of education,
training, and/or experience.

•Typically possesses at least three years of experience
working with data acquisition and/or control systems.

•Demonstrated experience providing maintenance and development
support for data acquisition or process control systems, including:
system problem analysis and resolution, protocol communication
analysis, and end device problem support.

•Demonstrated experience using spreadsheets to convert or
convey configuration information.

•Demonstrated experience with computer operating system
platforms supporting these applications, such Windows and
UNIX.

•Demonstrated knowledge of SCADA database and display
maintenance.

•Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaborate with
end-users, peers and management.

•Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze application
information, and make sound decisions that have moderate business
impact.

•Must have good oral and written communication skills, and be
customer focused to understand and appropriately respond to
clients’ business needs.

•Must have the flexibility to perform in IT and client
organizations where priorities, roles, processes, and procedures
are undergoing continuous improvement.

•Demonstrated ability to motivate self to overcome obstacles
and achieve goals.

•Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office or other
business tools suite.

•Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and
safe work practices.

•Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across
relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance
customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately,
develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide
exceptional service to internal and external customers.

•Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning,
decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability
to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

•Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation,
leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to
effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.


Preferences:

•Have working knowledge of the design of process control
equipment and engineering principles.

•Understanding of: electrical power concepts and power system
components (i.e. Generators, Transformers).

•Understanding of basic telecommunications infrastructure use
to acquire application data.

•Familiarity with industry standard Energy Management System
such as the GE XA/21 system. 

•Familiarity with communication protocols such as CDC1, DNP3
and ICCP. Unix/Windows/Java system usage skills.
