Under the direction of departmental supervision, the Environmental Monitoring Technician performs routine ans special testing for viable and non-viable particulate matter according to established procedures. Collects water samples using aseptic techniques, maintains records of specific duties as required by regulations. Performs other dutes as assigned by supervision.
Specific duties include:
* Using aseptic technique and under minimal supervision processes air, water, and bioburden samples for determination of microbial contamination;performs special monitoring as assigned.
* Performs airborne particulate monitoring in controlled environmental areas entering data into handheld computers, LIMS or paperwork as applicable according to departmental procedures.
* Carefully reads and tabulates test results entering all data into the computer system or paperwork as required.
* Performs Gram stain and other microbiological and physiochemcial procedures as requested by the department supervision. This includes the performance of macroscopic identity testing of microbial cultures according to standard microbiological methods.
* Performs routine microbial air monitoring; performs critical site testing, routine surface testing, and personnel monitoring, as specified in departmental SOP's. Enters all information into handheld computers, LIMs or paperwork as required. All testing is performed under minimal supervision and may be used in the evaluation of product or release.
* Assists departmental supervision in training new technicians as required by demonstrating work procedures and familiarizing new employees with various testing areas around test sites.
* Prepares and fills special culture media.
* Maintains stock and in-process cultures.
* Maintains technician's supply inventory
* Is knowledgeable of and follows all applicable cGMP and Safety guidelines in the performance of all duties.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required
2. A minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college/university with the following course work:
* A minimumof 4 credits in Biological Sciences with accompanying lab work.
* A minimum of 4 credits in Microbiology or Bacteriology with lab.
* A minimum of 4 credits in General Chemistry with a lab.
* A minimum of 3 credits in Mathematics
Required:
* Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
* Previous experience in using aesptic/sterile techniques
* Positive titers for Hepatitis A, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella is required prior to start.
* Must be willing to work 2nd or 3rd shift and weekends.
Preferred:
* Experience using a LIMs data entry system
* Experience with airborne particulate counters
* Experience with microbial air samplers
* Experience using appropriate technique in a laminar flow hood
