Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Wireless Communications. Must have experience with networking, radio frequency communications, and computer hardware and software, including IEEE 802.15.4 / Zigbee RF platforms and applications.
Core Competencies
- Typically possesses eight or more years of engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience with product development and testing.
- Demonstrated experience developing and running a test lab.
- Demonstrated experience with embedded Microcontroller Design and Implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate highly technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency with Visual Studio, Visio, LabVIEW, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must demonstrate excellent business mastery, including the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, enhancing productivity, manage risks and safety appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Must demonstrate excellent management mastery, including effective resource planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
- Must demonstrate strong personal mastery, including ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
COMMENTS: Additional testing may be required as part of the selection process for this position.
Preferences:
Demonstrated knowledge of 6LoWPAN, ROLL and MAC/PHY layers an advantage. Demonstrated knowledge of security mechanisms for IP and non-IP based networks. Utility experience with knowledge of 61850 and GOOSE standards. Demonstrated knowledge of Power Line Carrier technologies (Homeplug AV, IEEE P1901). Demonstrated knowledge of smart metering and smart grid concepts.
Typical Responsibilities
The successful candidate will manage the daily testing operations of Home Area Network (HAN) Development test laboratory, which evaluates new HAN end devices and their compatibility with the smart meters and back office systems. Typical responsibilities include: compiling test procedures and executing lab tests; participating in field trials, pilots and proposals for adoption of new technology; providing technical guidance in the development of new HAN interfaces; providing input to the various standards bodies to ensure Southern California Edison's requirements are incorporated; ensuring skills are transferred to others by acting as a subject matter expert and technical mentor; determining the test approach and methodology, and the equipment necessary to ensure reliable, robust, and secure radio communications for SCE needs; gathering requirements and managing the development of new HAN interface solutions; working with a variety of stakeholders to enable HAN communications on multiple physical media; conducting and providing technical oversight to testing of HAN devices; managing root cause analyses; ensuring technology transfer to other lab members and other departments; engaging internal SCE stakeholders and other utilities to carry requirements to industry standards; providing technical input to field trials and pilots; contributing to proposals and collaborating with other SCE departments and Utilities; developing test methodologies, scope, and resources necessary to meet testing objectives; and performing other duties as required.
