Description
Serves as compliance officer and ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Responsible for ensuring that the company is in compliance with all regulations within all states in which it conducts business. This includes federal, state, and local legislature and regulatory activity including Federal Sentencing Guidelines. Works closely with legal, actuarial, and finance departments. College degree. More than 5 years management experience in compliance/regulatory.
Responsibilities
ROLE SUMMARY
Serves as compliance officer for select business units/areas and ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Responsible for ensuring that the company is in compliance with all regulations within all relevant jurisdictions in which it conducts business. This includes federal, state and local legislature and regulatory activity, including and especially adherence to the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines. Works closely with leadership, management, and staff in other areas of Legal and Public Affairs, Corporate Audit, Human Resources, and various other business/functional areas.
Major Duties
- Principal consultant to various CIGNA Compliance Business Champions in the areas of compliance risk assessment, issue identification/prioritization and remediation of non-compliance to the business.
- Serves as an Enterprise Compliance representative on the Compliance Officers Roundtable.
- Develops/executes/certifies compliance plans for various CIGNA lines of business and facilitates the consolidation of compliance plans for CIGNA business areas.
- Engages in and communicates about all relevant joint activities involving various CIGNA lines of business for the purpose of risk assessment, identification and prioritization of compliance issues, and compliance plan development and monitoring.
- Maintains robust knowledge/understanding of current/proposed compliance requirements and specific business issues/processes that could be impacted by noncompliance.
- Performs triage on and works toward the resolution of all matters relating to the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and other information-protection laws and regulations.
- Contributes to the development of company policies and procedures intended to prevent unethical and illegal conduct while encouraging high business standards in order to advance business objectives, benefit the company's customers, employees and shareholders, and protect the company's reputation;
- Monitors and reviews activities of various CIGNA lines of business to ensure compliance with company policies.
- Consults with operation managers and senior leaders on an ongoing basis on compliance-related issues.
- Oversees the preparation of documentation for regulating agencies.
- Ensures regular training is conducted on regulatory affairs/compliance issues.
- Partners with Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, Enterprise Compliance and Regulatory Affairs in the development and implementation of periodic audits/reviews to monitor areas of compliance risk.
- Participates in the investigation of compliance-related matters upon request.
- Works with the relevant business areas to correct and/or otherwise resolve identified compliance risks and issues to minimize exposure to the company
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree.
- Juris doctor degree (preferred).
- Eight (8) plus years of directly applicable legal or corporate/regulatory compliance experience.
- Five (5) plus years of management experience in legal affairs/corporate compliance/regulatory affairs.
- Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the regulatory environment with regard to the various product lines within the CIGNA enterprise and the insurance industry.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships, and drive strategic planning and process implementation across organizational lines.
- Ability to manage and influence in a matrix environment.
- Preferred location for the position is the CIGNA offices in Philadelphia, PA
