Description

Provides day-to-day supervision of quality technicians and of the
quality
laboratory operations. Generally reports to QA Manager in moderate and
larger
plants. Oversees the testing of products and ingredients to ensure they
meet
specifications. Ensures that necessary adjustments are made to product
batches
and other processes when out of normal operating conditions are
experienced.
Ensures that quality records are complete and maintained according to
Company
standards. Identifies and implements improvement opportunities.

Function Specific Activities:

Find solutions for distressed and problem batches in order to minimize
losses.

Purchase laboratory supplies to maintain proper level of inventory.
This includes discussing needs with scientists, screening vendors,
placing orders, etc.

Interpret data from routine and non-routine analyses in order to
validate that ingredients/materials meet specifications and approve for
shipment to Company plants.

Prepare beverages and conduct analytical tests and taste or odor tests
according to sensory guidelines, including qualifying taste panelists.

Evaluate operations policies, procedures, systems or strategies (e.g.,
products, equipment, packages, materials) against The Coca-Cola Quality
System standards.

Manage documentation and records in order to ensure that they are
complete, current, secure and easily retrievable. This may include
designing, organizing or maintaining technical or regulatory records
(e.g., paper formula files) and reports.

Train and support department or the field on computer or database usage
(e.g., Formula Management System, SOAP, PRISM, SAP, GPATS, MSDS).

Delegate work assignments and tasks to appropriate individuals,
providing sufficient direction so desired business outcomes can be
achieved.

Organize workflow and task schedules to maximize laboratory efficiency
(e.g., prioritize sample analysis, assign tasks, preventative
maintenance).

Determine training needs, develop tools and communication aids, or
provide training to Company, supplier and bottler personnel to ensure
that the appropriate level of knowledge is transferred to the field to
assist with the effective implementation of each quality initiative.

Education:Bachelor''s Degree or equivalent work experience

Technical Skills:

Laboratory/Analytical Instrumentation: Knowledge of instrumental
theory, mechanical construction and operation, maintenance requirements
and ability to operate, modify and repair laboratory instruments.

Process Management: Knowledge of process definition, flow charting and
process management techniques. Includes knowledge of scale-up from
bench to commercialization and process/formula ingredient interactions.
Ability to establish and define processes, interrelationships, key
controls, and to continuously monitor and improve processes to
facilitate the efficient and effective execution of business
activities.

Advanced Analytical Chemistry: Expert ability to integrate analytical
chemistry techniques (e.g., GC, GC/MS and MS) and to apply the most
appropriate techniques to a broad range of problems.

Advanced Microbiology: Ability to understand and interpret advanced
microbiological studies as they apply to food and water safety. Ability
to understand diseases caused by food and water contamination and
design strategies to address issues related to these diseases. Includes
awareness of new pathogens that may affect company products and the
ability to propose and introduce new assays.

Laboratory Safety and Environmental Protection: The ability and
willingness to apply HAZMAT policies, HAZWOPER policies, environmental
policies, OSHA policies and the chemical hygiene plan. This includes
the safe handling of chemicals and glassware, the use of personal
protective equipment and Company safety rules.

Sensitive Beverages: Knowledge of and ability to apply sensitive
beverage processing techniques (e.g., sanitation, pasteurization,
microbiological testing).
