POSITION DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be part of the Commercial Legal Group within FPL Group's General Counsel Business Unit. He/she is expected to spend 100% of his/her time supporting Gexa Energy's business operations, primarily in the areas of commercial transactions and regulatory affairs. The position involves a high level of responsibility and contact with company management, including drafting and negotiation of contracts for sophisticated commercial transactions, with a focus on retail electric products and projects, as well as responsibility for oversight of all regulatory matters in the jurisdictions in which Gexa Energy operates.
The successful candidate will also assist the litigation legal team with respect to all Gexa Energy matters, and may also contribute support to the NextEra trading and origination legal team in the areas of structured power deals, trading agreements, and credit issues relating to retail electric and gas transactions and operations. There will be opportunities to cross-train across commercial areas of the business. Periodic travel to Juno Beach, Florida will be required.
Applicants should have a strong academic background and at least 8 years experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Eight or more years experience as a commercial attorney at a top law firm or energy company.
Must have five or more years with a primary focus on energy transactions.
Some retail energy experience is strongly preferred.
Exposure to state regulatory matters and proceedings is preferred.
Experience negotiating, drafting and interpreting a wide variety of commercial agreements.
Some litigation experience is preferred.
Experience with ISDAs, EEIs, NAESBs is beneficial.
Ability to respect and effectively communicate and interact with clients at all levels of the organization, including senior management, and become a trusted advisor with respect to all aspects of Gexa Energy's business.
Must exercise sound judgment; be able to work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Exceptional communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, including negotiation skills.
Excellent academic credentials.
Member in good standing of a state bar.
