Job Duties
SR. TECHNICAL SPECIALIST/TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE II (T-3/T-4) – Requires associates degree in a related technical field or equivalent capabilities, plus 6 years relevant work experience. Experience with basic hand tools, the safe fabrication of mechanical parts from mechanical drawings, hand drawings and, through verbal communication within given tolerances required. Experience with the safe use of common machine shop equipment, ex. lath, milling, drilling and, cutting a must. Desired experience with ultra-high vacuum systems; acquiring and maintaining vacuum, leak checking, pumping systems, vacuum gauges, pneumatic systems, driers, solenoid valves and regulators, chilled water circulators and plumbing, safe use of an acetylene torch; soldering The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of mechanical systems used for running an electron accelerator. Typical activities are fabrication, testing, troubleshooting and, repair mechanical, ultra-high vacuum, pneumatic, cryogenic and, chilled water systems. The candidate is required to have the ability to climb ladders, the physical ability to crawl under beam pipe and to work at times in a hot and/or cold environment. Successful candidate will be placed at the T-3 or T-4 level dependent upon years of experience and depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. Physics Department.
