Description

Requires a Ph.D. in cell or molecular biology or biochemistry, postdoctoral experience, and at least six years of experience as an independent investigator is required.  The candidate will be expected to develop an innovative research program in mammalian DNA damage responses and/or the repair of DNA damage produced by ionizing radiation with an emphasis on systems related to the effects of protons and heavy ions on manned, long duration space flight.  The successful candidate will serve as the manager for cell biology experiments at NASAs Space RadiationLaboratory (NSRL; http://www.bnl.gov/medical/NASA/NSRL_description.asp) at BNL, a unique user facility that provides proton and heavy ion radiation similar to that found in space to researchers in NASAs life sciences research programs.  Partial salary and a team of 3 user support personnel are provided by this task.  The chosen candidate may have an opportunity to develop and lead a research team to study the effects of low dose and low dose rate ionizing radiation for DOEs Low Dose Radiation Program (http://lowdose.energy.gov/).  The Biology Department has a distinguished staff of ~30 scientists with strengths in molecular, structural and plant biochemistry and biophysics with which to interact (http://www.bnl.gov/biology/).  Candidates should submit (in one document) curriculum vitae; description of research interests, and list the names and email addresses of three references.  Under the direction of Dr. Carl Anderson, Biology Department.
