Requires a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry or material science. Experience working with batch units for process evaluation, wet chemistry, and spectroscopy-aided analysis is also required. The successful candidate will work in a team environment, interface with industry and will be responsible for conducting data analysis and writing technical reports. Knowledge of fuel properties, chemistry and processing is desired, as is experience with biofuels. Expertise with analytical tools in support of fuel chemistry including GCMS, FTIR and HPLC is also desired. Processes of interest include hydrolysis, pyrolysis, gasification, hydrogenation and transesterification of oils. The successful candidate will contribute to a initiatives on biomass conversion to liquid fuels. Under the direction of T. Butcher, Sustainable Energy Technologies Department. BNL policy states that Research Associate appointments may be made to those who have received their doctoral degrees within the past five years.
