Description

Microsoft Corporation has an immediate opening for an experienced attorney to advise internal operations, Human Resources and development groups on regulatory issues including privacy, security and telecommunications law.

The position is part of the Corporate and Regulatory Affairs (CARA) group in the Legal and Corporate Affairs (LCA) Department, and will be based in Redmond, WA.

Responsibilities include:
Reviewing marketing communications, software products and online services and providing advice regarding compliance with applicable privacy, data security laws, standards and corporate policies, including our Privacy Guidelines for Developing Software Products and Services available at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75045>;
Responding to inquiries from LCA colleagues and business groups across the company and around the world regarding privacy, security and other regulatory requirements applicable to their activities, including data handling requirements and worldwide employee privacy issues;
Contributing to company-wide policies, standards and business procedures designed to foster compliance with privacy, security and data protection requirements and best practices;
Conducting and supporting outreach efforts describing Microsofts activities to protect and improve privacy and security; and
Working with a wide variety of other legal professionals, privacy experts, marketers, software designers and other clients across the company on regulatory issues.
Qualifications:
A JD and excellent academic credentials.
At least 7 years experience as a practicing attorney, with solid experience supporting complex regulatory and compliance issues.
Specific experience with privacy compliance issues.
Outstanding analytical, writing, and oral communication skills, as well as a strong record of effective collaboration across distinct legal and business groups.
Sound and practical business judgment, ability to think strategically, and desire to establish a trusted advisor relationship with LCA colleagues, executives and key business clients.
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations.
Ability to solve problems with a focus on achieving results that benefit our business as well as the businesses of our customers and partners.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision, interfacing with a variety of personalities across a large number of diverse internal groups, teams, divisions, and cultures.
Experience or familiarity with telecommunications regulatory issues.
Familiarity with and passion for technology and technology-related issues.
