Intellectual Property & Licensing (IP&L) is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to become part of an accomplished team of individuals with a passion for driving value for Microsofts intellectual property. This individual will play a foundational role within the IP&L Finance team in helping manage a significant portfolio of external IP investments and also be a key member of the team responsible for creating, evaluating and structuring new deals.
IP&L is part of Microsofts Legal and Corporate Affairs department and manages Microsofts overall Intellectual Property business. This includes Microsofts patents, trademark, and copyright portfolios; IP licensing and sales, IP acquisitions and inbound licensing, IP investments, and all IP policy and communications for Microsoft.
Primary responsibilities include:
Analyzing and valuing potential IP-related investments and acquisitions
Structuring, conducting due diligence on, and executing investments, acquisitions, licenses, and partnerships
Assist in monitoring the performance of external IP-related investments
Working with portfolio companies to develop strategic alliances or otherwise increase synergies between those companies and Microsoft
Contributing to Microsofts strategy for the burgeoning patent secondary market
Assisting in the development of business models for outbound technology and patent licensing programs
Conducting industry analysis
Becoming an expert on certain technology areas that are strategically important from an IP perspective

As the role evolves, the IP&L team will support greater responsibility and bigger challenges for the Senior Business Development Manager. Furthermore, leaders of this team are highly dedicated to personal career development. This position offers growth within IP&L as well as the opportunity to move on to other business development, corporate development, and strategy roles within Microsoft.

Minimum requirements for this position:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in investment banking, structured finance, venture capital/private equity or corporate development. Experience supporting complex transactions is required. Experience in software and/or intellectual property preferred but not required. Person must be a quick learner, leader and have an ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity. Person must also have a collaborative & strong work ethic and most importantly, excellent judgment. In addition, we are looking for candidate with the following qualifications:

Strong M&A or private equity financial analysis and modeling skills
Experience gathering, analyzing and presenting market data and other industry analysis
Self-starter with overall business acumen
Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and effective at cross-group collaboration
Executive presence/strong written and oral communication skills
MBA required
