ITT is seeking a Senior Motion Imagery Scientist to join our Space Systems Division in northern Virginia.

Our Motion Imagery Scientists are responsible for providing advanced technical engineering expertise on complex technical problems relating to motion imaging. They are expected to contribute to the development of analytical processes and tools associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation, and display of motion imagery. They are expected to contribute to breakthrough technological advances in the area of motion imaging for Space Systems Division.

The successful candidate will have expertise in the area of motion imaging science and engineering, motion imaging standards, principles and theories. Must have strong interpersonal skills and technical knowledge to instill confidence and trust and be able to communicate effectively the technology, its application and benefits to a wide audience to include customers and management. They must have a proven track record of success.

This key position provides motion imagery science support for highly complex and technical motion imaging related systems.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

- Develops basic design ideas and methods of approach and proposes improvements or modifications to the basic design ideas and methods which would be more effective and involve less risk.

- Contributes to theoretical studies of involved technical subjects that find wide application to design problems or that are required where previous methods and techniques have not produced satisfactory results.

- Develops advanced motion imagery related algorithms.

- Confers with management, engineering personnel and customer representatives to assure proper consideration of customer requirements. Analyzes proposals and related technical data to develop design alternatives.

- Provides analysis and consultation to highly complex technical problems encountered by engineering.

- Perform special assignments as requested. May be required to perform other assignments which are normally related to the work of higher or lower engineering classifications.

- Mentors junior level engineers as needed.

Could work at customer site in Washington DC/ northern Virginia area. Business related travel up to 25% is anticipated.

Experience Requirements:
Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics or in a technical area of science and research with 6-10 years work experience or a MS degree with 4+ years work experience, or a PhD.

We are seeking a motivated, team player, and a self-starter who is an exceptional communicator and can drive Space System Division teams to achieve breakthrough technological growth. Ideally successful applicants will published in the field across Technical Forums.

Knowledge and background in the following areas is required:
- Motion image compression algorithms (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Motion JPEG2000)
- Motion image processing techniques
- Motion imaging standards (KLV, HDTV, Motion Video Metadata Standard)
- Motion imaging system performance prediction modeling and metrics
- Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (AGI)

Ability and desire to lead a group and provide guidance to junior engineers is a positive and opportunity for growth in this position. Successful candidate must be willing and able to perform in a fluid and dynamic multi-contractor environment.
