Description
Responsible for managing and supporting high performance, highly available, and mission critical database platforms in MS SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008. Primary responsibilities of this position are managing and supporting the SQL Server database platforms. This position will work closely with the vendors, external consultants, various application support teams, IT technical support team, quality assurance team, security team, and operations to implement and support databases that solve business problems. The SQL Server DBA demonstrates accomplished technical expertise. Recognizes areas for improvement within the team, the process, technology, etc. and takes appropriate action to initiate the change. Actively promotes teamwork to achieve group goals.
1. Installs, configures, upgrades, and maintains database instances, creates various database objects, creates users with appropriate roles and levels of security.
2. Recommends and implements database security policies that are consistent with security guidelines.
3. Recommends and implements database backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies that meet recovery and availability requirements.
4. Implements automated monitoring to ensure proactive handing of issues to minimize unplanned downtime.
5. Works independently to perform database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance/tuning to ensure maximum performance.
6. Recommends best practices and ensures they are implemented and incorporated into DBA procedures.
7. Seeks opportunities to utilize new technology to solve technical and business problems.
8. Provides DBA support and technical expertise for multiple applications in development, test, QA and production environments.
9. Available for rotating 24x7 on-call support of databases.
