Description
ITT is seeking a Senior ONIR /OPIR (Overhead Non-Imaging/ Persistent Infrared) Scientist to join our Space Systems Division in northern Virginia.
Our Imaging Scientists are responsible for providing image expertise in support of developing analytical processes and tools as well as assessing imagery quality impacts associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation, and display.
This exciting opportunity will focus on solving exploitation problems based upon sound science. Duties will involve interacting with customers to identify needs, satisfy those needs by developing and prototyping new and innovative software tools to exploit ONIR data, conduct verification and validation of the tools, and assist in the transition of the tools to an operational environment. The scientist will also need to be a good communicator and leader who can advise/consult with other team members.spectral imaging concepts as well as the procedures/ standards for performing this work, managing large and small scale projects for both internal and external customers.
The position is analytical in nature and would include working in areas of image chain analysis, performance analysis, predictions, modeling, and optimization. The successful candidate will be working with remote sensing systems involving team oriented projects and daily customer interaction is required, including direct support to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) to ensure product quality.
General Duties include:
- Leading and supporting small, medium, and large technical projects
- Support the development and execution of project plans
- Support development and documenting image quality assessment procedures and processes
- Design/implementation of complex technical solutions
- Support technical exchange meetings to address issues on standards, interfaces, systems, operations, and requirements that support the integration of image processing systems
- Generating reports and briefings
- Mentoring junior level engineers as needed.
Fulltime position at customer site and travel up to 25%.
Experience Requirements:
Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with 6 years work experience or a MS degree with 2 years work experience, or a PhD with no work experience. Highly preferred is experience with IR and ONIR/ OPIR related phenomenologies and/or analysis.
Experience in Programming (MATLAB and IDL).
' Knowledge of the physics of optical emission (from both gases and liquids/solids) and reflection, transmission through the atmosphere and optical systems and IR detection. This is to cover (a) The physics of emission/reflection from liquids/solids (the earth background and hard body targets) and from gases (missile plumes, flames, fireballs), (b) Transmission through the atmosphere, optical filters, etc., (c) detection in a focal plane array and (d) basic optics (diffraction limits, focal lengths, F numbers), (e) emerging spectroradiometric sources and phenomenologies.
' Understanding of Signal Processing/Image Processing related to IR phenomenology and related algorithms
' Understanding of IR Focal Plane technology, sensor noise and clutter-leakage.
' Understanding of spectra and spectral processing, meteorology, meteorological remote sensing.
' Knowledge of IR R&D activities ongoing with other agencies highly desirable
Knowledge and background in the following areas would be considered a plus:
- Image compression algorithms
- Image processing techniques exploitation display optimization
- Imaging system performance prediction modeling and metrics
- Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (AGI)
- Imagery utility and psychophysical evaluations and modeling
- Analysis, simulation, and modeling of Visible and IR electro-optical (EO) systems
- Hyperspectral / Multipsectral / Thermal Infrared (IR) / LADAR / LIDAR / Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data types and systems
- Design of multi-variable experiments and related statistical data analysis.
Ability and desire to lead a group and provide guidance to junior engineers is a positive and opportunity for growth in this position.
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
