Description
Job Summary:
Defines technology system scope, objectives, and requirements as well as tuning programs for processing efficiency. Designs and develops technical solutions for Information Technology (IT) projects within the CSX Technology-Transportation Applications organization. Projects will focus very broadly within the locomotive business area including locomotive GPS systems and other mid-tier and web centric systems. Responsibilities will include both new development and existing systems support.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
* Research, analyze, and define business solutions. Prepare detailed project specifications and design solutions for business problems.
* Document test cases, expected results, test data requirements, and collaborate with testing teams/business partners to resolve testing problems.
* Code, debug, test, and support utilities, tools, and programs as part of the application development process.
* Provide impact analysis for changes to programs and systems.
* Serve as technical resource on project team.
* Assist in the definition of team processes and strategies.
* Design and deploy reusable services.
* Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* Associates degree required in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems/Technology
* 3 or more years of experience required in Software Application Design and Development
Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:
* High School diploma/GED required
* 5 or more years of experience required in Software Application Design and Development
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the above qualifications, the following is preferred:
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems/Technology AND 5 or more years of experience in Software Application Design and Development
* UNIX/LINUX Administration
* Systems analyst and/or Data analyst
* Data parsing, ETL
* PL-SQL
* Mobile/wireless systems
* Internet Protocol Suite, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the Internet Protocol (IP), and applications programming for networks
* SSH
* Excel formulas, pivot tables
Knowledge and Skills:
* Ability to design, development, and integrate business systems
* Written and oral communication skills
* Knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
* Ability to design test data suites
* Problem solving skills
* Ability to design and deploy web-based technologies using object-oriented methodologies
* Ability to utilize IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD) or related Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
* Systems documentation skills
* Knowledge of Java, Xtended Markup Language (XML), javascript, and Web Services
* Microsoft Office skills
* Ability to write queries using Structured Query Language (SQL) in Oracle Database and SQL Server Databases

Job Requirements:
* 5% travel required.
* May be required to travel to Business Continuity site in support of real or test Disaster Recovery exercises.
* Work hours may vary in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek.
* Work hours may include on call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home.
* The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check and drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.
