Description
Responsibilities:
Responsible for US sales/use tax advice involving a large geographical area of operations and a variety of business operations, with dissimilar laws depending on location.
Responsible for staying up-to-date on US sales/use tax laws and regulations.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining good relationships with Shell business personnel and stakeholders.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining good relationships with selected external sales/use tax administrators.
Regularly working in pressured and ambiguous situations, during a time of significant organizational change.
Other responsibilities include
1. Provide proactive, value-added US sales/use tax advice to support and further business goals and objectives and minimize indirect tax liability.
2. Provide regular, periodic training and awareness sessions regarding sales/use tax laws to business, financial, and Shell North America Tax Organization (NATO) personnel.
3. Monitor and provide proactive, value-added advice and proposals regarding state/local sales/use tax legislative and regulatory developments for Shell US operations.
4. Work closely with Shell''s indirect tax compliance group to insure correct and timely reporting and remittance of sales/use taxes for Shell US operations.
5. Work closely with NATO Indirect Tax Audits and Litigation group to insure identified sales/use tax issues are communicated to and corrected by impacted business units.
6. With other members of the NATO Indirect Tax Counsel team, assist in developing and implementing Indirect Tax controls impacting assigned clients/areas of responsibility.
7. Coordinate periodic reviews of sales/use tax processes impacting Shell US operations to insure sales/use tax liabilities are being correctly handled.
Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen, or hold a valid work visa that does not require sponsorship in order to legally work full-time in the United States?
Bachelors degree required, Masters in Taxation or Legal degree preferred;
Minimum of 5+ years of business and industry taxation experience.
Licensed attorney and/or CPA.
Preferred skills
Deep knowledge of US procurement and sales operations.
Deep knowledge of US sales/use tax laws/regulations.
Ability to discharge all duties and responsibilities without regular, close supervision.
Effective communicator of complex tax issues, both written and oral.
Ability to adapt to new/changing circumstances and ambiguous/pressured situations.
Ability to creatively propose solutions to indirect tax issues.
Effective client management and task prioritization skills.
Effective team player on local and global cross-functional/cross-sector teams.
