Manages small, minimally complex projects. Manages one to a few clients and/or projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities The successful applicant will develop, plan, coordinate and manage all aspects of solar and other renewable energy projects. The individual must have the ability to see projects from concept through completion.
This is a Seller-Doer position that can involve a wide variety of diverse assignments including: resource assessment, due diligence, siting, feasibility studies, new technology evaluation, project proposal evaluation, market assessments, strategic planning, policy evaluation, pro forma economic analysis, project design and construction management. In addition, this position will have some marketing and business development responsibilities.
The Project Manager will also support the growth of the Kansas City Renewable Energy Team by being involved with hiring and mentoring the professional staff. The Project Manager will work to plan and assign resources for the solar and other renewable energy projects.
The position will entail interaction with clients including: utilities, energy project developers, financial institutions, energy end-users, investors, government agencies, and other organizations.
Specific job responsibilities include managing engineering services projects, including scope definition, project staffing, technical oversight, and responsibility for successful project execution on time and within budget. Other responsibilities include:
Lead and contribute to authorship of reports, studies, and proposals.
Mentor and manage work of others in multi-disciplinary teams.
Lead and assist with business development activities in area of expertise.
Develop new project opportunities and business lines.
Represent Black & Veatch through speaking engagements and participation in industry meetings.
Minimum Qualifications BS Degree in Engineering, science, business, or related degree from an ABET accredited university.
5+ years experience managing the technical or commercial aspects of renewable projects.
Proven management experience with Solar Energy projects is required. Experience with supervising, mentoring, and developing staff.
The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly through formal reports, presentations, memoranda and email.
The position requires an individual to function equally well in collaborative, multi-discipline teams, and self-directed independent assignments. This individual also must be self-motivated, with an ability to balance multiple projects while working under tight deadlines. Demonstrated experience in mentoring young professionals is highly desirable.
Good communications, coaching, mentoring skills and team building are necessary along with a good understanding of project financials.
The successful applicant must have successful management experience in solar energy projects specifically and should have an interest in all renewable energy technologies.
Preferred Job Qualifications Masters degree or MBA would be beneficial.
PE Desired.
Some course work on energy systems, specifically some knowledge of renewable energy technologies preferred.
