West Garfield Park Community Networker

Position Summary:
Community-level coordination of CLOCC community projects. This includes making community presentations that describe the project and educate residents about improving safe, non-motorized travel and food access; building relationships with key community organizations and institutions; gathering information about partner organizations and programs; and cultivating support for and participation in community-based planning meetings to devise solutions to community barriers to non-motorized travel and food access within the community.
Job Responsibilities

Network with community residents and organizations to educate them about CLOCC projects and goals. Build relationships with and solicit support of residents, schools, government offices, health care, businesses, churches and others.

Motivate people to join CLOCC efforts; identify neighborhood leaders and develop methods to get people involved. Help to plan and set-up for the community meetings and the workgroup meetings; maintain communication with workgroup members to keep them informed of progress. Plan and facilitate CLOCC-focused community meetings; maintain communication with community partners to keep them informed of progress. In conjunction with CLOCC coordinators, create necessary written materials: meeting notices, informational flyers, letters of introduction etc. Serve as conduit for community issues and concerns as they relate to CLOCC goals, and share with CLOCC.
* Meet regularly with the other CLOCC community networkers to compare efforts. Report back to CLOCC coordinators on progress on a bi-weekly basis. Basic office administrative tasks as required for project implementation (e.g., copies, phone calls, etc). Collaborate with other agencies as necessary.

Requirements
Job Requirements:
* Must be a resident of the community he or she works in. Must know the community well: people, organizations, institutions; familiarity with local schools a plus. Able to interact with a broad range of people; persuasive and diplomatic; assertive and unafraid to talk to people at all levels; comfortable speaking in public.
* Reliable and able to work effectively with little day-to-day supervision; able to plan own workday, set objectives and identify new opportunities as they arise. Good written and verbal communication skills. Requires considerable travel throughout the community to attend meetings, make presentations and facilitate other community-level interactions. Evening and weekend work is likely.
* Bachelors degree or higher in health, education, policy or a related field with 2 or more years work experience with a community-based organization required; 6 or more years experience community organizing may be accepted as a substitute for a degree. Bilingual skills are necessary (Spanish especially) in communities where many people speak another language than English.
