ITT is seeking an Senior Active Imaging Scientist focused on LIDAR/LADAR to join our Space Systems Division.
Our Image Scientists work with remote sensing systems that have concentrations in hyperspectral/multispectral, thermal/thermodynamics, LADAR/LIDAR/SAR systems, capture, exploitation, image compression/motion and display.
The successful candidate will have expertise in the areas of working with the design of image formation and processing systems and algorithms for LIDAR/ LADAR imagery. The candidate will be responsible for aiding in the rapid prototyping algorithm software and interacting with a broad team of systems, software, and hardware engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Develops basic design ideas and methods of approach and proposes improvements or modifications to the basic design ideas and methods which would be more effective and involve less risk.
- Contributes to theoretical studies of involved technical subjects that find wide application to design problems or that are required where previous methods and techniques have not produced satisfactory results.
- Develops advanced LIDAR related algorithms.
- Confers with management, engineering personnel and customer representatives to assure proper consideration of customer requirements. Analyzes proposals and related technical data to develop design alternatives.
- Provides analysis and consultation to highly complex technical problems encountered by engineering.
- Perform special assignments as requested. May be required to perform other assignments which are normally related to the work of higher or lower engineering classifications.
- Mentors junior level engineers as needed.
Could work at customer site in Washington DC/ northern Virginia area. Business related travel up to 25% is anticipated.
Experience Requirements:
A B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with 6-10 years work experience or a MS degree with 2-8 years work experience, or a PhD with 0-4 years work experience is required.
Knowledge and background in the following areas would be considered a plus.
- Image compression algorithms
- Image processing techniques
- Imaging system performance prediction modeling and metrics
- Advanced Geospatial Intelligence (AGI)
- Design of multi-variable experiments and related statistical data analysis.
- Spatial geometry
- IDL, Matlab or C/C++ Programming
Ability and desire to lead a group and provide guidance to junior engineers is a positive and opportunity for growth in this position. Successful candidate must be willing and able to perform in a fluid and dynamic multi-contractor environment.
