Description
The Genome Sequencing core at the Hartwell Center for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology provides state of the art genome sequencing analysis to investigators at St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital using Illumina GAIIx and Roche FLX platforms. To date, the core has generated more than 280 gb of sequence data from eukaryote, bacterial and viral genomes. The HTP DNA Sequencing and Genotyping Scientist I provides technical and analytic support in the deployment of current second-generation and future sequencing technologies. This position includes substantial interaction with St. Jude investigators to provide guidance and support in the use of massively parallel sequencing technologies. The HTP DNA Sequencing and Genotyping Scientist I is responsible for the introduction and deployment of new services in the laboratory, performing standard and specialized molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid preparation/quantification, cloning, PCR, nucleic acid sequencing, and other specific techniques as required. Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A Masters of Science (MS) in biology, chemistry or life sciences or Masters of Arts (MA) plus seven (7) years experience in a laboratory environment is required
OR
A PhD in biology, chemistry or life sciences with no additional experience is required.
Preferred skills: Experience in DNA sequencing and analysis, DNA assembly, second-generation sequencing technology, bioinformatics and genome analysis tools, as well as training in molecular biology is preferred. Prior experience in a biomolecular core facility is desired.
Publications, collaborative participation in research programs and/or participation in international/national professionally related organizations is a plus.
