The Heat, Mass and Momentum Transfer Group (HMMT) of DuPont Engineering Research and Technology (DuET) located in Wilmington, Delaware is a corporate engineering consulting group that provides engineering services to DuPont businesses worldwide and to the DuPont Central Research & Development organization. The group provides innovative solutions in the areas of heat transfer, mass transfer, mixing and fluid flow. DuPont businesses use HMMT for the design of process equipment, evaluation of technical alternatives, capital project work, process trouble-shooting, process improvement, engineering judgment, and determining root cause of process problems. HMMT consultants work side-by-side with experts in reaction engineering, process modeling, engineering evaluations, process control, environmental engineering, process safety and particle technology - in a technically stimulating and collegial work environment.
The HMMT group seeks a highly motivated Chemical Engineer with experience in Mass Transfer unit operations such as distillation, scrubbing and liquid-liquid extraction to function as a Mass Transfer Consultant. The successful candidate is expected to eventually become a world-class expert in Mass Transfer and expand the competency to continually bring fresh ideas to solve new problems for customers in businesses within DuPont. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
* Developing a world-class technical expertise in Mass Transfer and using it to make specific, actionable recommendations which are implemented by out internal customers.
* Designing, evaluating, inspecting, troubleshooting and improving processes involving mass transfer and mass transfer equipment. Equipment inspection may involve process vessel entry.
* Understanding both the underlying fundamental chemical engineering principles and the specific equipment design details necessary to ensure successful outcomes for customers.
* Networking with other consultants, plant technical and research staff, vendors, project engineers, consortia, etc. as appropriate, to create, cultivate and manage a customer base.
* Managing and coordinating a high volume, diverse portfolio of projects and providing timely results to customers.
* Working with customers to understand their problems and provide the appropriate cost-effective and safe technical solution.
* Providing detailed written and verbal communication of results and recommendations to customers.
Additional shared responsibilities as a member of the group include:
* Cooperating and sharing technical information with others in the Mass Transfer community within DuPont.
* Assisting management with the renewal of the mass transfer consulting function.
Additional information:
* This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is located in Wilmington, Delaware.
* Candidate must be willing to travel (up to 20%) to plant sites - sometimes on short notice.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
* BS in Chemical Engineering. Masters or PhD preferred
* General process engineering experience
* 5 to10 years technical/engineering work experience
* Minimum of 2 years experience working with design or operation of Mass Transfer equipment or internals, such as distillation or liquid-liquid extraction
* Minimum of 2 years work experience at a plant site, either in Operations or in a plant technical support role
* Demonstrated strong technical engineering skills and ability to make sound engineering judgment.
* Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and decision making skills
* Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; e.g. ability to present complex technical issues and to communicate effectively with all parts of the organization - R&D and plant personnel (Operators, Technicians, Engineers, Management) at all levels
* Must be self-motivated, work independently and have the ability to adjust priorities with minimum supervision.
* Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and desire to expand knowledge
* Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple concurrent activities and deliver on commitments under tight time constraints
Other Special Requirements:
* US Citizenship or permanent residency required
Desirable Experience/Attributes:
* Experience using Process Modeling and Simulation tools (e.g. ASPEN PLUS)
* Experience working with business teams and capital project teams.
