This position will lead the product development efforts for a product line through the use of formal marketing planning processes, while leading the product review process to make recommendations to the appropriate management committees. Participates in the development of comprehensive product assessments and business cases through management of cross-functional teams and market research. Oversees proper usage of product development process in coordinating completion of new product development initiatives as well as enhancement and maintenance initiatives. Plays a lead role in the promotion, marketing and communication for the product line. Provides technical product support related to product development activities and day-to-day inquiries from the home office and field associates. Reviews and recommends changes to marketing materials. Serves as industry expert for a particular product line. Maintains relationships with industry organization contacts and remains up to date on regulatory and competitive environment.
Essential Functions and Technical and Processing Duties
* Conducts assessments of market environment, including competitor strengths / weaknesses. Integrates and analyzes data related to competitive positioning, marketing and regulatory environment and industry trends to develop product overviews.
* Analyzes product opportunities as requested.
* Maintains competitive product reviews and position within the marketplace.
* Manages all aspects of product development process for product introductions and enhancements, working closely with Project Manager.
* Organizes and delivers product introductions and enhancements.
* Participates in and/or takes an active role with new product research, design, development and implementation. Oversees and participates in all aspects of product development process stages and assists in the development and monitoring of project schedules.
* Responsible for evaluating and implementing product changes and providing appropriate direction on projects.
* Accountable for creating and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external clients to provide ongoing communication, coordination of efforts during the course of a project and to meet any other miscellaneous needs required to support product objectives.
* Reviews, evaluates and drafts marketing materials and program options that support product initiatives. Reviews materials with customers for input.
* Collaborates with subject matter experts to verify product accuracy.
* Contributes to the development of product related training materials and actively participates in training presentations as needed.
* Develops relationships with outside vendors/business partners, including performing due diligence, negotiating contracts and implementing the relationship by establishing the appropriate business processes.
Job Requirements
* College degree in related field or equivalent work experience
* Extensive experience in insurance; voluntary product experience required
* Thorough understanding of the group disability and worksite products
* Excellent analytical, organizational skills, problem-solving skills
* Strong verbal and written communication, relationship building skills and the ability to work well under tight deadlines
* Effective leadership and project management skills, with ability to manage and influence without direct authority
* Strong presentation skills
* Ability to analyze, synthesize and retain an extensive volume of information on a large number of issues, and make sound business decisions
* Knowledge and experience related to product development
* Personal computer skills, with experience in a Windows environment.
Position can be based in Atlanta, GA, Greensboro, NC or Omaha, NE
