Position Announcement

July 14, 2009

APPOINTMENT: The position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Engineering at the WIU Quad Cities campus will begin on August 17, 2009; or a mutually agreeable date to be negotiated.

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in an engineering discipline; demonstrated record of distinguished teaching, research/scholarship, and service; relevant professional work experience that supports general engineering curriculum; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with multiple constituencies. Preference will be given to Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with initial EAC-ABET accreditation; experience in curriculum development, student recruitment and retention; a record of involvement in professional societies and in community relations; professional registration.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach classes in the new Quad City Campus Engineering program; assist the program in gaining ABET accreditation; serve on school, college and university committees; maintain office hours in accordance with the negotiated contract; fostering corporate alliances; working with the Midwest Intellectual Property Institute and other Quad Cities area economic development efforts. THE DEPARTMENT:THE SCHOOL: The Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering will be delivered at the WIU Quad Cities campus in Moline, Illinois, in a 2+2 format. The WIU Quad Cities is an upper division (junior and senior years) and graduate program campus. All undergraduate programs offered are articulated with transfer programs from the WIU Macomb campus or from community colleges. The Engineering program has been approved by the WIU Board of Trustees and by the Illinois Board of Higher Education. The first class will be admitted in fall semester 2009.

The University Libraries contain more than 1 million cataloged volumes, 20,000 current periodicals, and access to over 100 electronic databases of information. WIU's librarians answer approximately 10,000 research questions per year. The library system encompasses the main Malpass Library and four branch libraries. The Physical Sciences Library, the Music Library, the Curriculum Library, and the Quad Cities campus library are integral parts of the University's system that provides full service to students, faculty, and staff.

Western Illinois University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.
