Responsibilities:
Shell Oil Company is currently seeking a Sr. Tax Advisor – U.S. Tax Assurance for their Houston,Texas location.
Responsibilities:
· Manage key U.S. consolidated processes such as,but not limited to,the following:
o Current and deferred tax reporting across U.S. operations in order to meet the quarterly/annual Group and U.S. financial reporting requirements;
o SOX enacted legislation log;
o Annual Global Tax Attribute Map (“GTAM”);
o Risk management workshop;
o Group Records Management; and
o Key Tax and Financial Attributes for Senior Management’s information reporting purposes
· Subject to directions set by the Tax Lead - Direct Tax Compliance,Reporting,and Assurance,provide support to the Global Tax Functional Plan,particularly as it relates to U.S. Assurance,to achieve goals agreed with the Tax Managers for the Businesses and Functions and VP Tax West
· Ensure fit for purpose application and implementation of Group Standards to the U.S. Tax Functions,including GALP process
· Manage U.S. consolidated tax attributes for Senior Management’s information reporting purposes
· Monitor and report on compliance with controls in USA,including analyzing,dissemination,and embedding learnings from BCIs
· Ensure fit for purpose responses are in place to ensure continued compliance especially those arising from Manage Direct Tax and Tax Law changes
· Provide support to further Tax 2010 organizational changes,participating as Tax Subject Matter Expert in global and domestic projects such as,but not limited to,GPT,ERP Sensitization,and LER
· Manage the loss of tax technical,historical and institutional knowledge during organizational changes from Finance 2010 and Tax 2010
· Assist in furthering Finance 2010 and Tax 2010 organizational changes especially where controls around US tax processes are involved
Requirements:
· Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
· Bachelors degree required, Masters in Taxation or Legal degree preferred
· To be considered for this position you must be a Licensed CPA or Attorney in Business Taxation
· Deep knowledge and experience in federal income tax law and practice
· Experience in Tax Management Framework and Controls (TMF&C) managing the governance, risk and assurance activities for Tax in USA
· Strong understanding of a corporate structure, governance processes, Framework, controls in a tax environment (including the TMF&C), and tax accounting under GAAP and IFRS
· Demonstrate leadership in control response management (i.e., control findings and related issues) and maintain robust controls in USA effecting Finance/Tax Functional Plans 2010, MDT, and tax law changes
· Knowledge of central SOX methodology and leading an annual SOX 404 certification exercise for US Tax
· Experience planning and leading the U.S. program for sign-off of controls for income tax for purposes of section 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley across U.S. operations. These activities encompass quality assurance, testing and deficiency assessment procedures
· Experience in standards set by Group Tax and directions set by U.S. Tax Lead – Direct Tax Compliance, Reporting, and Assurance, lead the assurance program in USA, including risk assessment/follow-up, SOX, FCM, and GALP
· Broad experience in business taxation working for an Oil and Gas company or another multinational, or a professional firm in both the upstream and downstream context
· Proven experience in evaluating tax risks, balance risk with Business objectives, and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the Business
· Experience in Compliance and Reporting and ensuring that tax controls are executed and embedded in the day-to-day activities of all tax personnel as far as possible
· Manage the quarterly due diligence reporting to the U.S. Country Controller
