Overview of the Position
Based in Hartford, CT, this role will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Marketing & Communications for The Harford, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the President of Commercial Markets. This person will be responsible for leading the strategic development and implementation of an ongoing, comprehensive external and internal communications program to support the vision and business goals of The Hartford''s Commercial Markets business. The individual will be a critical member of the senior leadership team of the business and will serve as the single point of contact regarding all communications, brand positioning, advertising, and marketing services efforts in alignment with the business strategies.
Responsibilities
* Utilize superior leadership skills and broad management experience to effectively create the overarching communications strategy, in conjunction with the President and his leadership team, that will forward the business goals of The Hartford''s Commercial Markets business.
* Play key role in developing and leading the overall internal communications for The Hartford''s Commercial Markets business to ensure that employees are engaged in the business''s strategy.
* Drive external communications, including media relations strategy, executive positioning, thought leadership and sales engagement across Commercial Markets and for each of the business segments, including supporting the business''s product launches and divisional marketing efforts in cooperation with the Commercial Markets marketing organization.
* Provide executive communications strategic direction for, and support of, the communications needs of the President of Commercial Markets, including overseeing the development of internal and external speeches and presentations, talking points for town hall meetings, internal video reports, leadership summits, media-related activities and other materials.
* Provide strategic communications, advertising, branding, and marketing consultation to the Commercial Markets leadership team.
* Serve as a senior member of The Hartford''s Marketing & Communications leadership team and as a senior member of the Commercial Markets team.
* Develop and implement dynamic, multi-channel communications to significantly enhance employee and media awareness and engagement in growth strategy, vision and values, and key organizational activities.
* Create and drive a proactive strategy and framework for crisis communications.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with all lines of business and other marketing and communications executives at The Hartford.
* Provide leadership to a team of both internal and external communicators.
Qualifications
Candidate Profile
* Bachelor''s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
* Minimum of 15 years of experience in corporate marketing and communications with a demonstrated track record of success in the integration of overall brand enhancement/management and strategic communication.
* Insurance industry experience required.
* Must have managed the full complement of communications disciplines and, ideally, marketing or brand advertising at the line of business level of a major corporation with the complexity, scale and issues relevant to The Hartford, particularly as they relate to business and cultural transformation.
* Experience working in a matrix environment is a strong plus.
* Reputation as a progressive and innovative communications and marketing executive with a proven track record of large scale communications and change programs which are creative and drive business results.
* A smart, seasoned, and business-savvy communications executive who is comfortable and confident functioning as a trusted advisor at senior leadership level of a public company.
* Ability to create an overarching, integrated communications platform, bringing together a unified communications strategy with different proof points across various stakeholders, particularly in media relations and employee communications.
* An individual with strong emotional intelligence and tenacity for driving change, even while experience resistance, is critical.
* Ability to place Commercial Markets Communications in the context of broader company strategy and business results.
* Proven ability to lead, manage, develop and mentor a communications team required.
* Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, including a proven track record of preparing high-visibility communications materials, ideally with a Fortune 500 company.
* Superior ability to serve as a key spokesperson for a large organization.
* Proven relationship-building and consultative skills; excellent ability to establish and nurture positive working relationships with the media, colleagues and senior executives.
* A team player with excellent planning and organizational skills.
* A high energy, results-oriented and resourceful leader who is capable of quickly taking control of his/her responsibilities and establishing himself/herself as a credible strategic business partner.
