Responsibilities/Job Description:

Principal Category Manager, Corporate is responsible for developing strategic sourcing and contract administration strategies that ensure the benefits derived from third party relationships are maximized.   In addition, this position will be responsible for  third-party relationship management, as well as providing supervision, leadership and mentoring to category staff.  Categories managed include, but are not limited to: IT, HR, Legal, Travel, Facilities, Staffing for Professional & Business Services.

Job Responsibilities

* Provides strategic sourcing leadership in execution of sourcing, contract administration and supply base management that extends across ythe enterprise.
* Ensures the strategic sourcing of goods and services are aligned to achieve the objectives: of the Enterprise; Spectra Project Management; and Supply Chain.
* Supervises Category Managers and Analysts.
* Leads cross-functional teams in achieving sourcing objectives for projects.
* Assures alignment and utilization of best practice category management for the business units located in Vancouver, Calgary, Northest Canada, Ontarion and across the north and southeast U.S.
* Leads supplier discussions related to negotiations or issues pertaining to the contract terms.
* Works with Project teams and other key stakeholders to determine metrics required to assure performance, supply continuity and manage risk.
* Works with category teams supporting operations to identify opportunites to leverage supply strategies.
* Identifies non-compliance to contracts, investigates the root cause, and resolves root causes where possible.
* Works with Spectra business leaders to develop category resource plans and timelines.
* Works with business areas to develop relationships and advocate the use of the contracts developed within the responsible sub-categories.
* Keeps stakeholders informed of significant changes in market conditions, which could have an impact on project cost or schedule.
* Works with the Director of Category management to develop enablers including, but not limited to category toolbox; work-intake; tools and templates; category training strategy.
* Creates staff developmental plans and guages
* Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree in: Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, Business, Finance, or Accounting.
* At least 10 years of cumulative experience in Project Management, supply chain or sourcing.

Desired Qualifications:

* MBA or advanced degree desirable.
* Certified Purchasing Manager (or similar accreditation) desirable.
* At least 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
* At least 5 years of relevant experience in natural gas industry preferred.

Technical Competencies

* Knowledge of professional services, including, but not limited to: HR, Legal, Marketing, Facilities, Accounting, Supply Chain, back-office support..
* Experience in price/cost modeling.
* Self-motivated and accountable.
* Supplier management experience.
* Knowledge of and proficiency in ERP and Procurement systems is desirable.
* Strong analytical skills (data analysis-economic, financial and statistical).
* Ability to independently facilitate sourcing initiatives.
* Excellent negotiation skills.
* Strong project management skills.
* Excellent presentation and report writing skills.
* Working knowledge of legal terminology, contract law and sourcing strategies.
