Description
Sears Holdings Management Corporation provides corporate services to Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: SHLD) and its family of companies, including Sears Roebuck and Co. and Kmart Corporation.The MySQL database administrator (DBA) is responsible for the planning, maintenance, and development for multiple high-volume, distributed databases and their support systems for the Sears Holdings online systems. Working as a part of a quickly growing team the MySQL DBA will ensure the database environment is designed and managed to meet business and IT demands for availability, performance and manageability. Will additionally be responsible for implementation of industry best practices in systems administration, stability, data security and recovery control, monitoring and management tools, grid implementations and management, tuning and capacity planning. Works as member of team of MySQL and DB2 DBAs to provide cross-platform design and support capabilities. Proactive maintenance and monitoring of all instances of the MySQL databases servers
Works with application development projects to evolve the database architecture and design
Participates in the creation of development, staging&production database instances, and the migration of those instances from one environment to another
Serves as the point of contact for advanced level troubleshooting issues, and performs hands-on systems administration as required.
Provides tools, alerts, and monitoring capabilities for automating database operations
Analyzes and responds to performance and other maintenance issues.
Tests and corrects errors and refines changes
Tunes the performance of all the staging and production database instances
Designs and performs, or automates, back-up and recovery processes with other support teams and ensures they are functioning correctly
Plans and executes tests of fault tolerance capabilities, including: backup/recovery; replication; cluster failover and disaster recovery
Maintain data standards and security, including adherence to the Data Protection Act, PCI, and/or other requirements as needed
Writes database related documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary
Work closely with Systems, QA and Development teams on designs, SQL development and performance
Perform on-call support by providing immediate responses to high priority requests for assistance by the 24/7 Operations teams. Provide after hours and weekend support as needed
Qualifications
3-5 years minimum experience with MySQL (multiple versions). Candidate must have deep hands-on knowledge of MySQL internals, monitoring, tuning, setting up and administering databases
Demonstrated database design and SQL programming skills to perform troubleshooting and data manipulation tasks
Experience with multi-master clustering (HA) and MySQL replication, experience with grid management structures a plus
Experience with performance tuning and optimization. (Query optimization, index tuning, caching and buffer tuning)
Hands-on experience with multiple native and partner-developed storage engines (i.e. MyISAM, Memory, InnoDB, etc.)
Experience with deployment and management of grid technologies a plus
Hands-on background with backup, recovery and upgrade procedures
Extensive experience interpreting data models and developing database structures for scalable applications, specifically web driven structures, data profiling, meta data analysis, data modeling and relational schema design
Experience with design and maintenance of large-scale, multi-faceted environments
Strong attention to detail and willingness to take ownership for their domain
Ability to diagnose and resolve a broad range of technical problems, including those not specifically attributed to the DB itself, in person, over the phone, and via email
High degree of independence and exceptional work ethic
Experience with other relational databases a plus
Knowledge/experience in Linux, scripting, (Perl, ksh, etc.) and creating automated tools and custom handlers
Strong teamwork, leadership and collaboration skills. Team leadership or management a plus
Must be willing and able to provide 24 x 7 production support on a rotating basis
