Description
The Business Analyst Director provides strategic business analysis services to business partners. The focus of this position is on the portfolio management of business analysis of projects as well as the management of resources assigned to those projects. Key to this position is the ability to view projects and their associated requirements in a strategic manner. This position will interact and support both business users and technology. This role includes oversight and management of business analysis staff.
Essential Accountabilities:
* Develop and oversee a comprehensive approach for the portfolio of projects to monitor projects and report scope changes, prioritization of scope components, and the attainment of business value
* Actively manage BA work associated with a portfolio of projects. Included is resourcing projects, identification and review of key BA deliverables, especially the development of project business cases and associated business value metrics.
* Sets direction for the team and manages staff
* Support the development of business strategy for the Enterprise Solutions business unit
Other Essential Accountabilities:
* Accountable to the respective project and product/operational managers who are ultimately responsible for the user requirements. Manage internal relationships with employees at all levels
* Support the reporting of project status and reporting and identification of desired changes to project scope coming out of prioritization efforts.
* Develop expertise in Agile Software Development Life Cycle terminology and methodology
* Stay abreast of developments in BA tools workspace, lead the implementation of new techniques; attend conferences and other training to ensure a broad and timely knowledge of BA concepts, methodologies and tools on an ongoing basis. Support efforts to increase efficiencies in PMO tools/processes.
* Share and leverage project expertise with other PMO staff; act as mentor to junior staff.
* Assist in the development of transactional requirements and data requirements (e.g. reference data, analytical data, benchmark data and economic data.
* Assist in the testing of products from an end-user perspective; assist in the creation of training materials and support documentation.
* Provide support and creation of presentation materials or research as directed.
* Support strategy development in partnership with the business to grow our business efficiently without sacrificing data quality, accuracy or timeliness of the data
* Oversee and coach BA consultants working with the Project Office
* Act as ambassador and advocate for the Project Office and the Enterprise Solutions business when interacting with business partners and other staff across the organization.
Qualifications
* Bachelors degree required; Advanced degree or designation (MBA, CPA, CFP, etc) is a plus
* Requires 10+ years of experience in business analysis, systems and product development
* Requires 8+ years experience in a financial industry/financial services
* Requires a min of 2 years in staff management positions (global oversight is a plus)
* Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge and experience in Equity Analysis, Fixed Income, Corporate Credit Analysis, Ratings Process, Finance/Accounting
* Strong familiarity with technical concepts and tools, such as: software architecture platforms, database tools, web and internet applications and mainframe applications
* Demonstrated business acumen with domain knowledge specific to one of the S&P business units and its tools and processes.
* Demonstrated understanding of the project lifecycle and supporting business analysis lifecycle.
* Demonstrated knowledge of 4 or more of the following: Standard requirements gathering and analysis; Process Mapping; Data flow diagrams; Standard BA lifecycle; BPM (Business Process Management)Requirements Management / Planning (Prioritization, Change Control)
* Demonstrated understanding of the use of technology to increase efficiency, improve product quality and timeliness and reduce costs
* Ability to work with large, complex transactional database systems, as well as strong familiarity with MS-Excel macros and MS-Access
* Creative, results driven, self-motivated, and solutions oriented to execute projects
* Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a technical environment
* Strong math skills and familiarity with their use in financial analytics
* Demonstrated ability to recognize project risks
* Strong, demonstrated interest in working with business partners and technology staff to elicit and document requirements; confident in interacting at an analytical level with knowledgeable staff, and advocating position when needed.
* Demonstrated leadership and communications skills
* Ability to work with team members and stakeholders at all levels, technical and non-technical, in a positive and team-affirming manner
* Attentive to detail and quality oriented; ability to execute in a timely and accurate manner
