Description

A position is available immediately for a highly motivated expert biophysicist interested in the structural basis for ubiquitin ligation in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute lab of Brenda Schulman. The Schulman lab takes an interdisciplinary approach to dissect the mechanisms of complex protein machines involved in signaling. More information is available at the websites:

The position is an ideal opportunity for an experimental physicist, chemist or biologist with expertise in single-molecule fluorescence detection techniques who would like to complement his/her expertise with other, diverse tools for understanding protein complex function and mechanism. The Research Lab Specialist would benefit from the outstanding environment in the lab and the highly collaborative St. Jude community. In addition to resources for crystallography and NMR, the lab has access to extensive resources for biophysical analyses (e.g ITC, BIACORE, AUC), including access to microscopes/equipment/expertise such as two-photon laser scanning system with Becker & Hisckl TCSPC module (SPC-150) and dual view TIRF imaging system in the St. Jude Cell and Tissue Imaging Center (http://www.stjude.org/stjude/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=392cfd5c4e7c1110VgnVCM1000001e0215acRCRD&cpsextcurrchannel=1). The ideal candidate would have a Ph.D. and expertise in protein biochemistry and quantitative, single-molecule fluorescent analyses (e.g. single molecule FRET or fluorescence lifetime measurements), ideally with limiting samples. Expertise in molecular biology and protein expression, including in eukaryotic sources, is preferred.(MJP)
