Incorporated as a 501C3 not-for-profit organization, National Industries for the Blind (NIB) enhances the opportunities for economic and personal independence of persons who are blind, primarily through creating, sustaining and improving employment. NIB operates under the Javits-Wagner-O''Day (JWOD) Act, a mandatory federal purchasing program, enabling people who are blind to work and provide products and services to federal and commercial customers.
By harnessing the demand and purchasing power of the federal government, NIB and its associated agencies supply federal markets with a selection of more than 3,000 quality products and services under the trade name SKILCRAFT® manufactured and provided by people who are blind at more than 80 associated agencies, across the nation.
Currently, NIB is in search of a Director, Information Technology who is accountable for directing the information and data integrity of the enterprise and its groups and for Information Technology functions of the enterprise. This includes data centers, project management functions, help desks, communication networks (voice and data), application development, and enterprise systems operations. They are responsible for maintaining the integrity of electronic and optical books and records of the enterprise, implementation of the strategic direction of information processing and communication systems and operations and the overall management of computer and communication activities within the enterprise including the day to day operations of the Information Technology functions as well as providing strategic direction as the enterprise grows.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree; MBA preferred with an emphasis in technology management or equivalent experience
5 to 10 years of experience in managing an IT department.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent time management abilities.
Demonstrated initiative, ability to exercise good judgment, and ability to achieve results through others.
Strong knowledge of contracting, negotiating, organization development/change management, budgeting, action planning and supervision are required for successful performance.
Very strong conceptual, analytical, judgment and communication abilities are critical.
Strategy and planning: an ability to think ahead and plan over a 12-24 month time span; strong customer orientation and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS:
Directly supervise team of ten IT employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; implementing performance management program; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain continuity of IT operations with executable disaster recovery plans in place at all times.
Prepare enterprise objectives and budgets to facilitate the orderly and efficient capture, storage, processing and dissemination of information.
Interact frequently with executive management on internal and external operations that are impacted by the capture, storage, processing and dissemination of information.
Prepare quarterly and annual reports on the operations of Information Technology operations of the enterprise.
Develop and maintain statements of necessary policies and procedures to assure proper documentation and communication of necessary controls.
Develop and manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups and personnel with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced.
Identify the emerging information technologies to be assimilated, integrated and introduced within the corporation.
Lead internal team dedicated to the review and prioritization of Information Technology projects.
Provide a source of specialized expertise that can serve the needs of other IT activities.
Manage a diverse group of information technology and strategic planning specialists.
Provide enterprise-wide direction on the use of emerging technologies for IT satellite operations, including other groups and subsidiaries.
Interface with external industrial and academic organizations in order to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in emerging technologies and to enhance the enterprises image as a first-class corporation utilizing the latest thinking in this field.
Monitor procedures to insure that, for potential information technology projects of any size, a comparison is made of internal development versus purchase.
Lead the examination procedure for systems developed as independent islands to insure that they do not conflict with enterprise needs and that any necessary interfaces are constructed.
Identify and provide appropriate information technology staff career paths throughout the organization. These include lateral transfers within and between departments, upward movements within IT and appropriate outward movement to other functional units.
