Role Summary
The role is to provide overall direction, guidance and definition of CIGNA Enterprise Solutions architecture to support the corporate business strategy. Lead a small team of architects and consultants who interface across several business areas, proactively assisting in defining the direction for future architecture solutions. Work as the single point of contact for EA services and support for a TSG / ASG / ITO lead, including coordination across all architecture domains. The individual is responsible for conception of solutions that adhere to IT policies and architectural standards, building consensus and the selling of such solutions. Provides strategic guidance to multiple teams of TSG architects involved in the analysis, design, development and implementation of large-scale IT architecture projects. The role generates architecture policies, standards and procedures. Typically requires several years of experience with some pertinent experience with the Oracle ERP solution including the delivery of central Payment, Billing and Banking solutions. Each one of these components will be considered part of the enterprise solution.
The Enterprise Soultions Architect is overall responsible for managing architectural direction for a business or technology target area. In support of a TSG roadmap owner, establishes and maintains an architecture roadmap that summarizes changes in business capabilities and corresponding changes in IT assets (applications, services, data stores and technical components) over time to support CIGNAs strategy. Work as the single point of contact for EA services and support for a TSG / ASG / ITO lead, including coordination across all architecture domains. Work in close cooperation with business architects and engineers for their respective roadmap, and with EA domain leads to ensure alignment with enterprise reference architectures. Ensure alignment among business strategies, reference architectures, and solutions within or creating dependencies on their roadmaps. Also serves as a solution architect as necessary.
Responsible for cross-project solutions, this architect is viewed as an expert in complex data integration and systems architecture and surrounding capabilities. Undertakes and/or leads complex architecture initiatives requiring an expert level of technical and analytical knowledge. The role requires some who makes well-thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous IT architecture issues, who can establish the approach and direction for significant projects, who will ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency. From the aspect of communication, the role requires the ability to establish and communicate common goals and direction for project teams, act as a resource for direction, mentoring and guidance for less experienced staff and effectively communicate to individuals at all levels of the technical and business communities. The role also requires the development of strong affiliation with the enterprise architecture organization, including the ability to use, share, contribute and influence the appropriate artifacts, approach and best-practices used to create enterprise-scale technical solutions.
Major Duties
Provide architectural strategy and subject matter expertise in the following areas:
- Creation of Conceptual, Logical and Physical Architecture artifacts to define the software and hardware needs and support solution build-outs;
- Leading the development of the solution architecture strategy, programs and processes;
- Establishing data architecture, leveraging enterprise data architects as appropriate.
- Evaluating technologies;
- Support the costing and budgeting activities related to the support programs.
- Building consensus and resolving issues across the architect and delivery spectrum..
- Communication of the architectural strategy and status to all key stakeholders.
- Mentoring and support junior level architects as well as assist in the evaluation of contractors and/or new hires.
Responsibilities
An individual in the Enterprise Solutions Architect role must be able to lead a team of architects to lead the conceptual/logical design and provide guidance \ direction during the roadmap phase and the following requirements and technical design project phases. Day to day activities will include utilizing a thorough understanding of available technology, tools and architecture best practices to ensure tasks associated with the delivery of significant projects are completed on time with a high degree of quality. The individual provides comprehensive consultation to the business unit, IT management and staff at the highest technical level on architectural recommendations and processes. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to work efficiently to meet aggressive deadlines and produce high-quality results by leveraging strong technical skills.
The primary function of this position is to provide architectural guidance, technology recommendations and transition strategies that support the development and implementation of initiatives based on common delivery, services-based architecture, and agility for complex and/or multiple projects. This role will serve as a solution architecture lead for all programs that require architectural guidance within the CIGNA customer domain.
The incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic thinking, solutions and roadmaps while driving architectural recommendations. Ensure architectural adherence throughout the design process. Adopt and communicate new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices and technology assistance. Support project level design, debug and performance analysis. Work with vendors and product management areas to establish required infrastructures and frameworks. Provide creative solutions to solve business and technical needs. Perform product evaluations, and Proof of Concepts.
Qualifications
- Experience as an architect working on programs of large size, scope, and complexity.
- Experience in relational data modeling, database design and optimization; experience with Oracle ERP strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of web technology infrastructures and enterprise messaging and middleware technologies
- Demonstrated depth of skills in several of the following domains: Programming Languages (Java/J2EE, Mainframe, .Net), XML, WebServices, EAI, DB2, Oracle, Software Design, QA, Mainframe Platform, Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, AIX, and Mainframe), ESB, CEP, MDM.
- B.S. in Computer Science strongly preferred or equivalent work experience including several years of solid, diverse work experience in client/server design.
- Self-motivated and highly professional.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Demonstrated systems development experience and strong knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and project management life cycle.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and work effectively with diverse groups of peers and business partners.
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
- Critical thinker, able to integrate company goals and objectives into department goals and activities/communications; can work with a blank sheet of paper.
- Detailed oriented, excellent ability to multi-task: addressing critical daily issues as well as keeping focus on strategic tasks
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently identify root cause to establish repeatable/sustainable processes.
- Strong negotiation and problem solving skills.
- The ability to build relationships with diverse staff and customers (internal and external).
