Description
The Sr Manufacturing Engineer who works under the direction of the Focus Factory Manager, is responsible for advanced manufacturing engineering support within production to sustain, develop, and continually improve machining processes, as well as drive lean deployment that will lead to gains in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity. The Staff Engineer will be accountable for timely execution of assigned projects and tasks in a high quality manner to support strategic and tactical needs of the Fabrication Focus Factory. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Become an active Lean Leader drive the deployment of Lean and lead high quality kaizen events including Setup Reduction (SMED), Standard Work (machining), Design for Flow, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), 6S, and Variation Reduction. 2. Lead machining related problem solving activities along with Quality Engineering using root cause/counter measure approach and basic quality tools such as 5 whys, Pareto analysis, and cause/effect diagrams. 3. Design and develop new machining processes including but not limited to the following: Investigate current methods and processes while researching new technology and advanced methods Complete process layouts including machining methods, tooling selection, and work holding design Program CNC machines including vertical/horizontal mills, 2-4 axis lathes, and multi-axis mill-turn equipment Select and deploy tooling fit for the process design special tools as needed Develop process documentation required to support processes and train operators 4. Sustain and continuously improve existing machining processes identify or act upon suggested opportunities for productivity improvement, and capture associated savings. 5. Assist in preparation work to justify new capital equipment conduct analysis, gather data and facts. Lead projects to implement capital equipment in a timely and efficient manner as required. 6. Plan, execute, and control assigned projects and tasks working collaboratively within Fabrication Focus Factory and among other departments 7. Work on projects and activities related to: Quality Control Systems: Failure Effects and Mode Analysis (FMEA), Control Plan development, measurement system design and analysis, gage instructions, and audit schemes Advanced Lean Initiatives: Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) deployment, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Setup Reduction (SMED), and Standard Work Manufacturing Engineering: Productivity, time observations, scrap/rework reduction, capacity analysis, and process studies 8. Support audits (6S, Standard Work, Setup Reduction, etc) with FF leadership team as required. 9. Perform other duties as assigned to support strategic and tactical needs of the Focus Factory. Required Experience: 8+ years of experience in precision, production machining environments. Technical or Engineering background strongly preferred. Advanced knowledge in blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) required. Must have experience working with lean manufacturing concepts in a machining environment SMED (current and new processes), Standard Work in Machining, and Autonomation experience is a significant plus. Must be willing to develop into a Lean Leader to aggressively drive change. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Advanced machining knowledge ability to visualize and plan processes from scratch CNC Programming Expertise multiple machines including vertical/horizontal mills, lathes, mill-turn machines Advanced knowledge with CAD/CAM software Pro-E or Solidworks CAD / GibbsCAM preferred Manufacturing or Production Engineering experience advanced machining process design and developments Quality engineering and systems experience a plus CMM operation and/or programming highly advantageous Blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) expertise required Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification a plus Creativity and innovation skills required to analyze work, identify opportunities for improvement, and act on them Classical Industrial Engineering skills time observations, work element breakdown, line/cell balancing, layout, manufacturing systems engineering, production planning/control, etc would be beneficial
