Description
Cut off gates, risers and feeding pads using either carbon electrode arc air method or plasma cut-off. Prepare castings for repair welding by grinding and chiseling as required. Repair defects with shielded metal arc (SMAW) and/or gas metal arc (GMAW) welding. Select proper correct voltage, electrode, etc. as required. Peen welds and grind welded surface to an acceptable cosmetic and structural condition. Perform preheating, defect preparation welding/brazing with acetylene torch. Manufacture simple fabrications and perform occasional maintenance welding with supervisory guidance. May perform production grinding at times. Maintain applicable documentation as required. Keep area clean and orderly to 6S standards. Miscellaneous duties as assigned. Skills and Experience EDUCATION
Ability to make simple shop calculations, read sketches, and diagrams or weld procedures and have some elementary knowledge of welding practice. Equivalent to high school education plus a minimum of one year training in welding.
