SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Communications and Grants Specialist (CGS) is a dual employee, a member of the Million Dollar team and reports to the Director, Foundations.  The CGS works with the senior development officers to develop, prepare and deliver effective proposals, presentations and other communication vehicles for the million dollar team''s fundraising efforts.  This includes campaign management, message development and coordination, proposal and presentation development, and other communication needs.  The CGS reports to the Director, Foundations

1. Manages all proposals, concept papers, presentations and fundraising collateral for the million dollar team and its efforts.
2. Oversight of acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship of commitments of million dollar donors, sponsors and cause marketing alliances regardless of the area or organization supported.  Shares responsibility for these functions with Grants Administration, communications and program managers.
3. Working with the Senior Development Officers, Brand and Integrated Communications, helps ensure that all contractual obligations as it relates to branding, recognition and activation are met.
4. Works with the communication (AARP Foundation) and integrated communication (AARP) teams to manage all presentation and proposal materials to reflect accurate and compelling messages for AARP and AARP Foundation programs, campaigns and initiatives.
5. Develops and produces effective proposals, including the management of external vendors in support of proposal development and creation.  Works closely with the CFO (or designate) to develop proposals and proposal budgets that accurately reflect the request and accompanying work that corresponds with approved budgets.
6. In concert with the communications team, develops compelling messages for million dollar fundraising efforts.
7. Works closely with the SVP for Impact Programs and staff to fully understand program objectives so that engaging and effective marketing and fundraising messages can be developed and incorporated.
8. Works collaboratively with the Director of Grants Administration to develop stewardship reports and updates to key million dollar accounts.
9. Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and follows ethical standards for charitable giving as defined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP).  Leads AARP development programs with integrity.
10. Demonstrates ''One AARP'' attributes and behaviors in all interactions.

REQUIREMENTS:
BA degree in public relations, marketing or an aligned field linked to the duties of the position (Masters preferred).  10  years of related experience in positions which demanded effective multi-tasking, responsiveness, client support and nurturing, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.  Must have exceptional oral and written communications skills, polished social skills, and a proactive approach to dealing with tasks and people.
