Overview:
With limited direction and supervision by the managing attorney, performs duties of legal counsel on a variety of increasingly complex legal matters in the defense and representation of the Company on legal matters in the field of Workers Compensation in various courts of law, and other related appearances.
Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Handles more complex workers'' compensation cases at the Workers'' Compensation Appeals Boards..
*
Takes depositions, analyzes testimony and prepares and files reports.
*
Represents the Company in appearances at hearings and conferences; prepares and files related reports.
*
Researches as necessary, and prepares complex pleadings for cases before the Workers'' Compensation Appeals Boardand on appeal as needed, requested or required.
*
Provides advice, training and recommendations on case handling strategies and tactics to representatives of the Claims Department and other departments as needed and requested.
*
Performs legal research at all levels, from advising clients through the appellate procedures.
*
Assists in mentoring and training Trial Attorneys I and II as well as Hearing Representatives as needed and requested.
*
Works productively and harmoniously with others on a consistent basis.
*
Responds positively to direction and criticism of performance.
*
Consistently maintains professional and appropriate demeanor.
*
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Skills and Experience Requirements
*
Law school graduate and member in good standing of the State Bar.
*
Minimum of 4 years experience as a Trial Attorney for legal defense of workers'' compensation claims or civil litigation.
*
Ability to communicate both orally, and in writing, in an articulate, persuasive, precise and professional manner.
*
Experienced with training small groups in current legal practices and procedures in the field of workers'' compensation defense and subrogation.
*
Must be willing and able to travel extensively using all means of public transportation, as well as capable of prolonged automobile driving, in excess of three hours a day, to widely dispersed venues.
*
Valid Driver''s License in good standing.
Attendance Requirements
Due to the nature of the needs in the office, regular and reliable attendance is required. Must be able to work at least 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and be available should a situation arise requiring extended hours.
