Junior Business Intelligence Analyst
Position Reports to: Manager, Business Intelligence
Department: Information Technology
Essential Functions
This role provides technical support to develop and implement
business intelligence solutions in an internal client-facing role
for a growing small non-profit enterprise. This position will
involve implementing data quality initiatives, constructing ETL
scripts, SQL queries, business process automated workflow,
exception reporting, and will be a key resource in building a data
warehouse.
The successful candidate should have software modeling skills to
support data warehouse initiatives and experience with key tools
needed to support those initiatives. Experience with SQL, RDF,
pivot tables, and metadata management practices is mandatory.
Responsibilities
? Play an active role in implementing our BI
solutions.
? Assist in the internal knowledge transfer of BI to other
teams within our organization.
? Participate in multiple facets of the Software Development
Life Cycle (SDLC)
? Implement workflow and business process visualizations
? Document and define business processes and functionality
across business units. Assemble information into workflow models
and provide input for continuous improvement.
? Help design, develop and maintain a data warehouse in a
hybrid Microsoft/open source environment
Qualifications (knowledge, experience & skills)
Education and Experience
? Bachelor’s Degree
? Demonstrable understanding of business processes and data
needs as they relate to sales, marketing and customer service
? Ability to author or edit, with minimal guidance, 10-500
page document metadata
? Completion of three or more projects lasting at least six
months and involving at least three stakeholders, at least one
other full time software engineer, and which included requirements
traceability
? Project experience with the software development life cycle
(SDLC)
? Experience with enterprise workflow automation, metadata
management and related standards (BPEL, BPMN, SysML, DoDAF)
? Experience in at least one project which utilized industry
standard configuration management practices
? Valued certifications include CSQE, CSDP or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
? Required: Proficiency in model driven software design
(MDA)
? Required: Proficiency in SQL
? Required: Proficiency in producing design and documentation
artifacts (metadata, text, diagrams, workflow) concurrently with
software deliverables
? Required: Experience with software product design for
reuse
? Required: Advanced collaboration skills, both written and
oral. A technical writing sample will be required during
interviews
? Required: Basic understanding of web server and web page
operation in order to support web-based SDLC and metadata
tools
? Required: Ability to document use cases through elicitation
as well as by inference from existing software or process
artifacts
? Required: Proficiency with open source tools such as Apache
Webserver, Tomcat, BonitaSoft, SeaMonkey, 7Zip, Jedit , Filezilla,
Joomla, Drupal, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and the WAMP stack
? Very Desirable: An understanding of the data models
associated with General Ledge and Sales Order Processing
applications
? Very Desirable: Programming experience in Java, and somewhat
less desirably C# or VB.NET
? Very Desirable: Proficiency in Microsoft Visual Studio (for
metadata management and other activities in a Microsoft-centric
environment)
? Very Desirable: Experience with Sparxsystems Enterprise
Architect or equivalent UML/SysML tool
? Desirable: Working knowledge of a CRM package (Saleslogix,
MS CRM, SF.com).
? Desirable: Experience with B.I. software a plus (ideally
QlikView, alternatively SSIS/ SSRS, Tableau, Cognos,
MicroStategy).
? Desirable: Understanding of domain specific languages
? Desirable: Experience maintaining or building ETL systems
relying entirely or in part on Microsoft technologies but
delivering final results in mixed vendor presentation layers
? Desirable: Proficiency with MS Reporting Services and
Crystal Reports for report creation

? Ability to juggle multiple priorities and frequent
shifting priorities and due dates.
? Ability to recognize when and how to make expedient
tradeoffs while still following SDLC best practices whenever
possible
? Incorporating the limitations of legacy applications while

standardized and ill-defined concepts, e.g., metadata
management
? Know when to ask for help in completing or redefining a
task
