Incorporated as a 501C3 not-for-profit organization, National Industries for the Blind (NIB) enhances the opportunities for economic and personal independence of persons who are blind, primarily through creating, sustaining and improving employment. NIB operates under the Javits-Wagner-O''Day (JWOD) Act, a mandatory federal purchasing program, enabling people who are blind to work and provide products and services to federal and commercial customers.
By harnessing the demand and purchasing power of the federal government, NIB and its associated agencies supply federal markets with a selection of more than 3,000 quality products and services under the trade name SKILCRAFT® manufactured and provided by people who are blind at more than 80 associated agencies, across the nation.
Currently, NIB is searching for a Business Development Specialist. This position will assist the Director, Strategic Market Development, in identifying new opportunities for emerging agencies and writing the business development plan. This will include a 2 year business plan as a leave behind after the completion of the initial 6 month emerging agency assistance.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field or equivalent experience.
TRAINING, SKILLS AND SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Demonstrated working knowledge of the NIB/AbilityOne program or equivalent experience in business development.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
3-5 years prior business development experience, preferably for new locations or business lines. Knowledge of the AbilityOne procurement process preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIRED
Travel to emerging agencies, government agencies, commercial customers and other locations as required, up to 25%.
SPECIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in developing and writing a business plan specific to the emerging agency which contains quantifiable and achievable results over a six month period.
Identify new Services, Niche, and possibly Textile product opportunities to align with the new agency capability.
Work closely with appropriate NIB departments to develop the service or product opportunity to be placed on the procurement list when appropriate.
Assist in developing a set of how to processes and reference material for use by emerging agencies which outlines how to develop new business and create an environment of continued success.
Supports emerging agency as a liaison to the procuring activity and in price negotiations as needed. Assists agency to develop complete understanding of the contract requirements in the development of proposals.
Works closely with National Account Managers and Product Development Specialists in assessing, approving and developing new business opportunities.
