Description
Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for providing authoritative legal advice and counsel to Shell Group companies in the United States and elsewhere, with a strong emphasis on interpretation and practical application of US export control and international trade sanctions laws and regulations.
Key accountabilities include:
* Assisting Business Export Control Officers in evaluating export compliance risks and supporting the establishment and maintenance of fit-for-purpose compliance strategies
* Maintaining a lead position in client and practitioner networks to assure best practice sharing, issue resolution, and currency with latest regulatory changes
* Interfacing with other Shell lawyers engaged in this and other areas of the law
* Making or coordinating all non-routine communications with government agencies on export control and sanctions matters
* This individual must have the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team framework due to the specialization of this role
* Experience selecting and managing the services of outside counsel
* Proven experience with direct client contact regarding their export controls risk
* Keeping up to date with in-depth working knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations and their application in export controls
* Relentless pursuit of excellence, while being thoughtful and supportive of colleagues at all levels
Requirements:
* Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
* Must have graduated from a tier one law school
* Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas, or have membership in the bar of another state and an intention to become a member of the Texas Bar
* Proven experience in current export control/international trade sanctions area
* Experience working with company officers leading awareness training of current and/or changes in export controls laws
* Must have excellent demonstrated oral and written communication skills
* Candidate with experience with contracts and transactions for multinational businesses will be preferred
