GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing technical support to the Reduced Emissions Fuel (REF) Business Units development efforts and portfolio of REF refined coal production plants located throughout the United States.  This position supports investigations of coal-fired power plant performance when consuming REF, root cause analysis of any performance trend changes along with technical support for optimizing the implementation of the technology used to produce REF, with expected focus on combustion and air pollution control equipment.  Reporting to the REF Business Unit VP, the employee exercises independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures, and practices.  Results are reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to these policies, procedures, and practices.

PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Provides technical support to the REF Business Units development efforts regarding optimizing REF technology implementation and identifying target plants for deployment of the technology

·         Assists in the technical due diligence of development efforts, including detailed review of power plant equipment and development and implementation of REF test burns

·         Coordinates or assists in the compilation of all necessary data to investigate REF technology performance, including assisting with the sourcing of additives used in the technology

·         Primary liaison with the power plant customer on matters pertaining to REF performance, with participation in the scheduling of production levels

·         Provides technical support to investigate power plant performance root cause analysis and development of corrective actions to eliminate any REF-related issues, Assists in the investigation of customer operating problems and unusual events and provide analysis, recommendations, reports and appropriate follow-up plans

·         Prepares periodic status reports that describe operating performance, issues and forecasts of future performance

·         Travels to multiple plant locations (up to 40% of time spent away from primary work location)

·         Perform other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

A Bachelor''s of Science Degree is required (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) and five to seven years of experience in the operation and maintenance of powerhouses, utilities or similar plant assets to provide for the following:

·         A thorough understanding of the operation of coal-fired power plant equipment, including a working understanding of common industry practices implemented to ensure high availability, reliability and efficiency

·         Working knowledge of ash fusion temperatures and deposition chemistry as it relates to the radiant and convective sections of coal-fired boilers

·         Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Possess strong presentation skills

·         Ability to communicate effectively at all levels

·         Capable of working alone or as part of a team without a significant level of supervision

·         Ability to balance time and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

·         Capable of promoting and maintaining strong, positive relationships with coworkers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and customers

·         Willingness to share expertise and knowledge with other team members for the benefit of the entire business unit

·         Proficiency in MS computer applications, including Word and Excel in a Windows environment

·         Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader

Frequently, the employee is required to stand or walk, and sit. It is crucial to the outcome of job tasks that the employee is able to: talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms extensively.

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift or move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight.

Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a plant site.  In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and will work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the plant site.
