Job Summary
Contributes to the development, implementation and ongoing assessment of the Corporation''s continuous improvement (CI) strategies through: leading project teams, mentoring & coaching less experienced CI personnel, assessing internal & external CI related issues, recommending related best practices and leading their implementation. Solves complex problems through the application of substantial CI experience & expertise to the development and implementation of innovative solutions.
Key Accountabilities
-Works with CI Director/Manager and business unit (BU) leaders to develop and execute continuous improvement strategies using DTE Operating System (Lean/Six Sigma).
-Proactively identifies gaps in the organization''s performance, develops and executes continuous improvement solutions to drive bottom line results.
-Provides support of the organization''s project portfolio through guidance, advice and prioritization of projects.
-Mentors and coaches Operating Systems (OS) specialists, Green Belt Candidates, Green Belts, Black Belt candidates and project leads (but isn''t responsible for personnel selection, performance management or other supervisory responsibilities).
-Leads key organizational projects.
-Conducts Operating Systems (Lean/Six Sigma) training, identifies BU training candidate pool, and provides input on appropriate OS (Lean/Six Sigma) capacity.
-Utilizes Lean/Six Sigma Operating Systems principles, methods and tools to design, implement, improve, monitor and align the tools into the way work is performed.
-Shares best practices with the CI community.
-Scans the industry for best practices of improvement tools and methods, proposes to the CISG governance team, and implements them as appropriate.
Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor''s degree in business, science, or a related discipline, & 5-plus years of experience in the implementation of Lean, Six Sigma, or other performance operating systems, and supervisory or project management experience. Lean Six Sigma/ Six Sigma Black belt certified, or experience as Lean Expert executing/leading large-scale projects.
Preferred: Master''s degree in a job-relevant discipline.
-Communicates effectively (verbally & in writing) with individuals at all levels, inside and outside the Corporation.
-Demonstrates consulting and influencing skills consistent with the ability to build relationships and influence parties; may include getting parties to embrace changing expectations and initiatives.
-Demonstrates analytical & problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
-Develops challenging short- and long-term group plans & objectives aligned with those of the Division & Corporation; solicits staff input in the developmental process.
-Demonstrates the ability to develop / coordinate cross-functional work groups and projects, yielding optimal outcomes.
-Demonstrates the ability to conduct efficacious meetings & manage the meeting process with optimal results.
-Initiates new ideas and approaches; challenges prevailing practices & approaches with reasonably sound alternatives.
-Commands well-developed organization and planning skills (typically acquired through at least 5 years of experience).
-Demonstrates the ability to apply project planning & implementation and/or continuous improvement principles (typically acquired through several years of experience in these areas) to affect tangible, positive out-comes.
-Displays competence in multi-tasking (i.e. the ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high-visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork & planning).
-Deals effectively with resistance; takes positive steps to avoid the recurrence of errors through constructive critique.
