The Getting Hired
team is preparing for our fall
diversity and inclusion events supporting both job seekers with disabilities in finding jobs as well
as attending networking events with HR professionals.
The Society for Human
Resource Management (SHRM) is hosting its annual Diversity &
Inclusion Conference on October 22nd to October 24th at the Hilton Atlanta in Georgia.
Getting Hired is
excited to sponsor the event again this year as the conference is important for
HR professionals to attend and gain insight from a range of leading experts
within the diversity and inclusion space.
Why should HR
professionals attend diversity and inclusion conferences?
1. They help you understand your customers better - Almost half (49%) of employers
surveyed for LinkedIn’s Global Recruiting Trends 2018 said they focus on diversity in their
workforce to better represent their customers. If you’re not attending events
and trainings with this focus, you’re already behind.
2. Improve your employer brand – Today there is more public awareness than ever before on what
initiatives companies are (and aren’t) investing in with diversity and
inclusion. In a 2017 survey by PwC, 54% of women said they researched if
a company had diversity and inclusion policies in place when deciding to accept
a position with their most recent employer.
3. Diverse teams perform better with more creativity – There isn’t a shortage of this point
being discussed but statistics and studies continue to prove this point. According
to a recent McKinsey study, U.S. public companies with a diverse board have a
95% higher return on equity than those with non-diverse boards.
4. It will decrease your talent shortage – According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for job seekers with disabilities was 9.2
percent in 2017 making it a missed opportunity for HR professionals who are not
investing in resources to successfully hire this population.
5. Networking – Change is a constant and it’s important for HR professionals to
always be learning and networking with peers about best practices within the
workforce.
What should attendees
expect to learn from the SHRM D&I event?
This year’s event has
a focus on showcasing how inclusive hiring practices provide key benefits to
businesses.
With more than 35
sessions taking place during the event, here are some of the top sessions the 800+ attendees should be adding to their
agenda:
By attending diversity and inclusion conferences with leading experts from various organizations, backgrounds and experiences, we comprehend viewpoints that we wouldn’t have otherwise learned by staying at the office. We know that diverse viewpoints help make better decisions, and drive high-performing teams, so what are you waiting for?
There’s still time to
register for the event and meet the Getting Hired onsite team
at booth #303 to learn more about how to build an inclusive hiring program for
individuals and veterans with disabilities. We hope to see you there!
