Role Summary:

Value Engineering is a practice focused on driving continuous cost-out and value optimization across GE Gas Power's products and service offerings. Members of Value Engineering will act as a red team charged with identifying valuable features, functions & articles across the full portfolio & determining alternate means, methods & approaches to solutions with an aim towards unlocking the maximum value-based opportunity for GE.

Essential Responsibilities:

Sr. Value Engineer members will organize into focused, small teams that identify cost-out opportunities, develop business cases, and build implementation plans with the appropriate functions to enable value capture while minimizing risk. Put very simply, this team will challenge the status quo on cost and shift the balance of the value equation towards costs versus our historical bias towards pure machine performance.

  • Generate cost optimization ideas through a rigorous cost data analysis and/or developing new approaches to established processes
  • Conduct analytics and parametric modeling to assist management teams in setting cost targets and to support the org in negotiation and translation into business case / projects
  • Install and harmonize a gated VE process with Cost PMO & functional organizations (Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing) to drive resource allocation and pacing through the lifecycle of project ideas. This will include ideation, business case development, activity planning, turnover to execution teams, project execution & value realization
  • Drive implementation of project plans until full value capture, supporting both Core & Non-Core systems:

o Across core systems, VE will conduct teardowns, ideate, and should-cost parts to identify potential for reducing cost and balancing value
o Across non-core systems, VE will support the efforts of the Systems Architecture team. This will include challenging specs and should-costing parts to identify potential for cost reductions ("make" components) and challenge supplier prices against best-in-class ("buy" components).

  • Build and codify cost analysis knowledge and capabilities
  • Create a long-term and sustainable engine within GE Gas Power for generating business value through cost-out efforts


  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or business related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years experience in Engineering or Supply Chain

  • Ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for ideas, urgency and decisiveness; takes prompt action to accomplish goals
  • Drives execution of tasks and influences through formal channels and informal network
  • Track record of engineering problem solving; experience running design to value programs (DtV), should cost analyses, tear-downs, or cost engineering.
  • Proven experience in product lifecycle cost analysis e.g. material, manufacturing costs, assembly and logistics cost.
  • Superior problem solving abilities & analytical skills e.g. data analysis, experience formulating business cases
  • Knowledgeable across product portfolio at the component level, financials, and commercial level
  • Deep knowledge of the power generation marketplace
  • Prior academic or work as a lead/senior engineer
