Summer Intern, Hematological Translational Medicine

The candidate will work with our translational development teams by learning and contributing to the development and execution of laboratory experiments to understand the activity of small molecule drugs targeting novel cancer targets and identification of predictive markers of response or resistance. The successful candidate will have some limited technical experience and enthusiasm for working and learning in the laboratory setting as well as an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. While the internship positions are broadly hematology-oncology encompassing, there are two roles available: one with a primary focus on multiple myeloma and the other on lymphoma.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow instructions and execute experiments such as molecular, biochemical, and cell biological techniques such as cell culture, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, western blot, RNA preparation and mammalian cell transfections.
  • Interpret and discuss data under supervision
  • Troubleshoot
  • Background reading to understand project
  • Train other research associates and scientists in lab assays of expertise
  • Understand the context, impact and timely communication of data.
  • Search literature for targeted information.
  • Understand and execute on role tasks.
  • Actively participate in the development of cell-based assays for mechanistic studies, including biomarker work
  • Perform a wide range of assigned research experiments with efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Meticulous record keeping

Qualifications & Experience

  • Basic lab skills.
  • Ability to follow lab protocols under supervision
  • Reviewing literature for technical and scientific support
  • Basic knowledge of cancer cell biology preferable
  • Curiosity and quick to learn laboratory procedures and instrumentation, including cell culture, basic cellular assays (e.g. proliferation/apoptosis), immunofluorescence, western blot, RT-PCR.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint a strong plus, along with GraphPad Prism.
  • The candidate must be in an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree program in the Life Sciences with an interest in a future career in healthcare.
